Exciting times to be a basketball fan! In October of 2019 I went to Oats first high school coaching clinic and also watched several pre season practices. There is just something about him, his staff, his brand of basketball, and the effect he has on everyone in the program! Check out the link to see what I posted after the clinic. Scroll down to see the personnel notes I added also...Especially about Quinerly! If they renovate Coleman we could become one of the top programs in the country year in and year out! RTR!!! @Harper41 @Tony_Tsoukalas

Great call coach. I appreciate the info. I happened to meet Charles Barkley at a Walgreens in Moody last summer. It was coincidence that we met but he took the time to tell me what he thought of CNO. He said CNO was"the real deal." He said he was" going to win" and "you Alabama fans are going to really like him." I am now a true believer!

Spot on! I remember reading the original post... I identified w/the post as I had a B-Team coach in HS that made everything competitive even man-to-man press during our gameday layups and then taking the ball back to half-court.

I also love how CNO conditioned the players not to take the midrange... all positive reinforcement in a competitive environment.

And in a our biggest game of the year, Petty and JQ both shot long contested 2’s off the dribble. We hardly ever shoot those.

And that’s why the midrange shot is outdated and an analytically bad shot haha
Those were bad ones for sure. I’m not 100% against a true wide open midrange shot. Heck the video that was posted of Alex T recently, he was practicing the midrange shot. And he was drilling them.

If they’re truly wide open, I’d say drive to the goal. I just don’t like them and never have. Never understood someone in transition stopping a foot in front of the 3 point line and taking that instead of a 3.

That's the reason I like Ellis' willingness to take it to the hoop 'strongly' - same with Miles.

Herb needs to be that aggressive on every drive as well as he's got a huge wingspan and should hammer it instead of trying to finesse the shot

those type dunks have a way to demoralize the opponent

Don’t disagree with that. But the wide open catch and shoot midrange from 15 feet can be a huge strength for some players.

Nice write up about his clinic and what you learned about his program.I remember when Greg Byrne was set to hire him I read everything I could find about CNO and his coaching style and was blown away by it all.
My thanks go out to Greg Byrne for having the vision to hire the guy and as it turned out it wasn’t a big gamble.

I agree but I do like 8-12 foot jumper...I believe it pulls the defense up from the box which makes this layups more open. I've always liked bugs that could nail a 8 foot baseline jumper.
No more than 5 a game though.

Can't stand a 16-20 foot jumper.
