Coach Oats did a fantastic job this season. However, as he reflects over the season, I hope that he thinks about this for improvement. Stress to his team that we want to win the first 4 minutes. We want to make the other team play from behind. During many years of coaching boys baseball, I always stressed that we wanted to win the first inning. Make the other team play from behind. Come from behind victories are exciting, but they usually fall just short. This worked great for me, and we usually got the lead early.
The basketball team this year was a notoriously slow starter. We would catch up when Quinerly and Reese came in. Probably starting Quinerly would have kept us from falling behind so much, and the team would have come to the games ready to play from the opening tip.
