Football 🏈 Alabama ranked No. 7

In ESPN's post-spring top 25

Spring update: It has been 131 days since legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban unexpectedly retired, and they're still playing college football in Tuscaloosa. Just a friendly reminder that Saban's replacement, Kalen DeBoer, had a 104-12 record in his previous three stops and directed Washington to a spot in the CFP National Championship last season. Yes, a boatload of players left for the NFL draft or via the transfer portal, but Alabama has enough talent remaining to compete at a high level. The offense looked explosive in the spring with returning quarterback Jalen Milroe and young tailbacks Jamarion Miller and Justice Haynes. The Tide's offensive line can only get better after allowing 49 sacks in 2023. Getting offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor back from the transfer portal was a coup for DeBoer. Defensive lineman LT Overton (Texas A&M), safety Keon Sabb (Michigan) and two Washington transfers -- guard Parker Brailsford and receiver Germie Bernard -- should help right away.

I’m definitely jumping to conclusions here, but the lack of an answer really makes you wonder what in the hell happened here.

Baseball ⚾️ Good article from WVUA on how baseball gets screwed relative to other programs in the SEC

A lot of quotes from former players and their families about how stupid partial scholarships are and how The UofA sabotages non-head count sports with ridiculously high out of state tuition costs.

I don't agree with their implying that Alabama having a lottery with fix the situation. The only fix IMO is the NCAA changing the system to something more like football or basketball. Conversely they could also cop out and demand that all forms of scholarship assistance count against the 11.7 so every school has the same limitations.

I do agree the state needs to get some form of a lottery. If nothing else is gained, it would still help an already cash strapped state to not piss half a billion bucks into other states because a few backwoods pubs in the legislature are too eager to poison pill any sensible legislation on the matter. I just don't think our politicians will allow the income to be anything more than a general fund booster and maybe more money for the lower education lobby to piss away. The last bill they ended up not doing anything with started out in a good place before adding in far too much for the average Alabama voter to stomach. It's one thing to ask them to vote on lottery but another entirely to go from its all illegal to full on Vegas gambling from casinos to sports betting with the lottery along for the ride.

Football Recruiting Four-star 2025 LB talks Alabama offer, possible visit with Crimson Tide

Alabama is set to host a talented group of visitors in June for official visits as the coaching staff looks to add more elite talent to its Class of 2025. While the Tide already has several top targets, the coaching staff continues to dole out offers and possibly add even more visitors in the summer and fall.

On Wednesday, One of those recent offers was dished out to four-star linebacker Herbert Scroggins III. Scroggins is ranked as the No. 29 outside linebacker in the class and plays for Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia. Though he’s only recently picked up an offer, Scroggins has been on the Tide’s radar for some time. Linebackers coach Christian Robinson visited the talented linebacker twice before extending an offer after positive reviews from the rest of the staff of Scroggins’ film.

“It felt Amazing,” Scoggins said. “A lot was going through my head because it’s Alabama you don’t see a lot of Alabama offers out there so it showed it meant something.”

Scroggins said Robinson gave him a straightforward breakdown of Alabama during their conversations. Robinson went in-depth about the new coaching staff and the type of players Alabama is looking for in its 2025 class. Scroggins also said the offer greatly boosted the Tide on his list of schools, which also includes Auburn, Tennessee and Missouri among other Power Five offers.

“Their legacy stands [out], and the people who went through that program and became NFL draft picks,” Scroggins said. “It makes it a place where I can be very successful at what I do and that’s playing football.”

Alabama is recruiting Scroggins for the “Bandit” position in Kane Wommack’s system. The position calls for a versatile player who can line up at the 9-technique (outside the tight end), 5-technique (on the outside shoulder of the tackle) or 4i-technique (on the inside of the tackle) spot. The 6-foot-3, 233-pound Scroggins totaled 84 tackles, including 10 for loss and 12 sacks in his junior season.

Though the Tide has put itself in the mix for Scroggins’ services, communication will be key in his recruitment. He wants to continue to get to know the staff and develop relationships as his recruitment continues. Scroggins hasn’t yet visited Alabama but wants to travel to Tuscaloosa for a workout and to meet the rest of the coaching staff. No plans have been set yet, but Scroggins said both a summer workout and an official visit could be in the works. He has not yet set a commitment date.

Scroggins' possible summer trip to Alabama will have to come in the midst of a busy schedule for the rising senior. In addition to official visits to Tennesee and Auburn, Scroggins will also visit North Carolina on May 31 and Miami on June 21.

Hoops 🏀 Mark Sears NBA Draft update

Alabama coach Nate Oats gave an update on Mark Sears NBA Draft status at a Yea Alabama event on Tuesday. Sears will workout with the Houston Rockets and the Milwaukee Bucks and get feedback from both teams. His decision won't come until the final day (May 29) because his workout with the Bucks isn't until that day. He will have until 10:59 p.m. CT May 29 to announce one way or another.

“If the feedback’s not a guaranteed contract, I think he’d love to come back here and try to win a national championship," Oats said.
