Football 🏈 The Alabama Fan's Guide Of Who To Root For This Weekend Part 2

I think Michigan winning hurts Alabama because there is a good chance a 1-loss OSU team gets in over a 2-loss Alabama team. I wanted OSU to blow out Michigan because Michigan's SOS is terrible, sitting at 57th right now. Alabama and OSU SOS are really close, Bama's is 25th while OSU is 27th, so that will likely get OSU in unless #3 happens this weekend. That said it fairly clear who Bama needs to pull for this weekend:

1. Kansas St. to not only win but win handily against TCU. I don't think a 1-loss TCU team that's not a conference champion would deserve to get in over Bama, but Bama fatigue and the fact that TCU's SOS (19th) is actually higher than Alabama's helps them. It hurts that UT isn't in this game because that could have given Bama a couple of data points having beat them.

2. Utah to beat USC. Doesn't matter if it's by 10 points or just 1 point. USC lose and they are out. Their SOS is almost as bad a Michigan, sitting at #51. Hell playing Utah won't help that much given the fact that their SOS is only one spot higher at #50. This Bama team is undefeated with either Michigan's, USC's, or Utah's schedules.

3. The most unlikely to happen is Purdue beating Michigan. But if that does happen there is no way the committee can put 2 Big 10 teams in the CFB Playoff that didn't win their conference. Michigan would get the nod having just destroyed OSU at home. That would likely knock OSU out and they will need a viable team to fill that slot.

It's still a long shot but no impossible that Bama could get 2 of these to happen and find their way into the Playoff. I get the funny feeling that if they do get in, they will be playing with house money and a chip on their shoulders from hearing everyone for 3 weeks say how they don't belong.

Michael Williams

Is the old Bama tight end the head coach of Pickens that’s playing for the 1A Championship today?
Separate note….I think he was the guy that against LSU maybe…we ran wildcat with Maze and threw out of it and Willims was WIDE OPEN. But a receiver from the opposite side of the field just ran into it and his defender made the play. I’ve always wanted to know if that was by design or the receiver just did that on his own. It would have been an easy walk in TD if that receivers stays away.

Football 🏈 I wonder if seeing UGA last year and Michigan this year have success playing the way Bama use to play

Makes Saban wonder if he has allowed Bama to go too far the other way? I'm not advocating going back to the 2012 style of play, but Bama has become more of a Big 12 team than some Big 12 teams. Truth hurts but it is still truth. Maybe Bama should get closer to that middle ground of of opening up the offense but still have that physical ground and pound. That in turn will force the defense to become more physical because they will get tired of the offense beating the hell out of them everyday in practice. Just a thought this Monday morning.

My view of Futbol

After spending time, watching the World Futbol Championships, here is my view.

1. I loved Soccer, when my kids were playing. Heck I even loved Soccer more when my daughter was in college, but it is the most boring game in the world. College Soccer is even entertaining. However my problem is with Pro Soccer.

2. With Soccer you watch players constantly running up and down the field, until someone decides to fall down in crippling pain with a season ending injury, that last until he realizes he is back in the play and then he suddenly recovers and is running at fill speed, like he just came onto the field. Pro Soccer is even as bad as Professional Wrestling, at times. Soccer makes basketball flopping look like an amateur acting class.

3. The Goals in soccer are to small. If they added a foot in each direction, Right, Left and up, there would be a lot more scoring and Americans might want to watch. Observing a 0-0 game is about as exciting as going to my sister-in-laws house for Thanksgiving, You got to do it once a year whether you want to or not.

4. Offsides is a ridiculous call. Offsides is like penalizing a wide receiver for outrunning the Defensive back.

5. The good lord gave us hands for a reason, so use the dang things for something other that pushing another player out of the way. Catch the dang ball and throw it at the goalie. That would sure make the game more popular.

6. On the good side is that the games are so short that you don't even have enough time to drink a six pack before the game is over and there are not two hours of commercials and 90 minutes of game time.

7. Limited substitutions are also a good thing. I think that in football there may be 20 minutes of real action in a game and 40 minutes of instant replays and players in a huddle looking for the next play. We also don't have players that can only go 2 plays and then need a substitute because they are winded. In Pro Futbol you are allowed five subs a game and the other six players go the entire game. I can remember in college and Pro football when there were limited substitutions and you were allowed to substitute two players a play and you could only sub a player twice in a quarter. Unlimited substitution was the worst thing to happen to American Football.

All is all, I will watch tomorrow, because it is the USA playing , but Futbol will never replace my love of Football, Basketball and Baseball. Heck, I even love watching Golf more than Soccer, as I know how good these buys are that play golf. Someone called Futbol a Commie Sport. It is not a Commie Sport, but they do need to eliminate some of the 18 rules of the game and let the scoring improve.

Tidebits 🐘 TideBits, presented by The Rogue Shop: Previewing OV weekend No. 1 with Early Signing Day less than three weeks away

RogueShop.png
Good morning.

As things stand on Friday, December 2nd, Alabama has the No. 1 class in the country for the class in 2023 by a rather comfortable margin.

With the contact period now officially underway, the staff is looking to close strong, and among their stops today will be a visit with five-star Fla., DE Keon Keeley.

There is also an Alabama presence today at LB target Suntarine Perkins' state championship matchup.

After speaking with sources close to the situation, I am still feeling rather confident in my FutureCast I entered back when he first re-opened his recruitment months ago. Alabama is in a good place with him right now.

The Crimson Tide are preparing for their first official visit weekend of December, a month that will make or break the Tide's chances at a recruiting crown.

OFFICIAL VISITORS

Pebblerbook (Ga.) CB Tyler Scott
Eufaula (Ala.) defender Yhonzae Pierre (commit)
Ocean Springs (Miss.) S Bray Hubbard (commit)
Florence (Ala.) CB Jahlil Hurley (commit)
Anniston (Ala.) OL Ryqueze McElderry (commit)
Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) DL Hunter Osborne (commit)

This weekend's visitor list is smaller than most, but that appears to be a strategic move more than anything else. All but one of the visitors are currently committed to the school, with Pebblebrook (Ga.) CB Tyler Scott.

Scott has a busy December ahead, with trips to USC and Texas to follow his latest trip to Tuscaloosa.

Having the first OV in a stretch of three straight can go one way or another. Alabama hopes, per my sources, to set the bar so high this weekend that both USC and Texas have a hard time matching.

With Scott, the Vols remain in high-regard. While the officials are going to be important in determining his landing spot, the in-home visits are where I believe things will go one way or another.

Read into that what you will.

Auburn's new coaching staff wasted no time making sure that James Smith and Qua Russaw felt like a priority, stopping by Madhouse Training first thing on Friday with several coaches.

As the month progresses, these two feel like it could come down to Auburn and Alabama. Florida remains the wild-card, but sources feel like Auburn is set to make a big push for several of the state's top recruits. That (obviously) includes Smith and Russaw.

For the sharper brain

OK guys I need some help remembering one of our past posters. He did not go back and forth with the Bama talk and banter, but he was one of the best that this site has had at bringing info to the board. I want to say his name was “timberman “ or “timberland” or something like that. Does anyone remember this guy? It has not been super long since he was here.

ROLL TIDE

What to watch for during Alabama soccer's College Cup semifinal vs. UCLA

Alabama soccer will make its College Cup debut tonight as it faces fellow No. 1 seed UCLA in a national semifinal at 7:30 p.m. CT inside WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

CFB Playoffs Expands to 12 teams starting in 2024

IRVING, Texas – Members of the College Football Playoff (CFP) Board of Managers have agreed to begin the newly-expanded 12-team playoff during the 2024-2025 season.

“We’re delighted to be moving forward,” said Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff. “When the board expanded the playoff beginning in 2026 and asked the CFP Management Committee to examine the feasibility of starting the new format earlier, the Management Committee went right to work. More teams and more access mean more excitement for fans, alumni, students and student-athletes. We appreciate the leaders of the six bowl games and the two future national championship game host cities for their cooperation. Everyone realized that this change is in the best interest of college football and pulled together to make it happen.”

The first round of the playoff in 2024 will take place the week ending Saturday, December 21, at either the home field of the higher-seeded team or at another site designated by the higher-seeded institution. (No. 12 at No. 5, No. 11 at No. 6, No. 10 at No. 7, and No. 9 at No. 8.) The specific game dates, likely late in that week, will be announced later.

For the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the four quarterfinal games and two Playoff Semifinal games will be played in bowls on a rotating basis. The 2024 quarterfinals will take place in the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl will host the Playoff Semifinals. The 2025 quarterfinals will take place in the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl will host the Playoff Semifinals. Specific dates for all quarterfinal and semifinal games will be announced at a later time.

The national championship games will be played January 20, 2025, in Atlanta, and January 19, 2026, in Miami.

“On behalf of the Management Committee and the Board of Managers, this is thrilling,” Hancock added. “It’s been a long process, but we are pleased that more teams and more students will have the opportunity to compete for the national championship beginning in the 2024 season. A new era of college football is about to begin. I look forward to it.”

“This is a great day for college football,” said Mark Keenum, President of Mississippi State University and chairman of the CFP Board of Managers. “I’m glad we are able to follow through and launch the expanded playoff early. It’s very exciting for schools, alumni and everyone involved.”

Members of the CFP Board of Managers include Tim Caboni – Conference USA (President, Western Kentucky); Jim Clements – Atlantic Coast Conference (President, Clemson); Gordon Gee – Big 12 Conference (President, West Virginia); Jack Hawkins – Sun Belt Conference (President, Troy); Rev. John Jenkins – President, Notre Dame (Independent); Kristina Johnson – Big Ten Conference (President, Ohio State); Mark Keenum (chair) – Southeastern Conference (President, Mississippi State); Kirk Schulz – Pacific-12 Conference (President, Washington State); Satish Tripathi – Mid-American Conference (President, Buffalo); Gerald Turner – American Athletic Conference (President, SMU); Keith Whitfield – Mountain West Conference (President, UNLV).
