Football Recruiting What I’m hearing on N.C. DL Daevin Hobbs days before his commitment

North Carolina 4-Star DL Daevin Hobbs is set to announce this week between Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

I went and met with Hobbs in-person over the weekend and he was pretty honest with where things sit. If he were to decide yesterday, Tennessee would be in a really good position.

However, Hobbs who likes to make the best of his decisions told me that he won’t make a final decision until later this week, allowing each staff to make their final pitch.

He did say Alabama is still in it but as things stand today, Alabama would need to step up big in these final days to put themselves over the top.

You`re probably an Auburn fan if ...

. .. You can play the Auburn fight song using your armpit.

... Your wife`s idea of cleaning house is throwing everything out into the yard.

... The Roto-Rooter man stops by your trailer and asks, "What`s that smell?"

... You`re a member of the Skoal Frequent Purchaser Program.

... You looked up your family tree and your uncle spit on you.

... You joined Alcoholics Anonymous so you can drink and use a different name.

... You looked out for #1 and stepped in #2! !!

... You won`t buy a Japanese car because you`re afraid you won`t understand what they say on the radio.

... Your kids go to a private school and they won`t tell you where it is.

Football 🏈 Will Reichard talks program scoring record, potential last Iron Bowl

On Tuesday, Will Reichard discussed if Saturday is his final Iron Bowl and what it meant to him to set the program scoring record.

Another Redux post: Tua 2016

After I made my "predictor" post about Will yesterday, I had two of my ole fart friends tell me I should re-post my "Tua Post" from a few years ago. I was hesitant because I don't want to seem self-serving and told one friend I don't want to sound like some kind of smart guy looking for poster board "creds." His response via text was, "Hell Ron, anyone who thinks you're smart just needs to read most of your posts and they will get over that thought in a hurry!" Love my ole fart friends! So, here goes just for fun:

My wife and I had the privilege of going out to Aloha Stadium last night for the Kamehameha-St Louis football game. It was a big 35-3 win for St Louis over a pretty dang good team, and Tua was outstanding. His stats were 23-36 for 272 yds, 2TDs, 0 ints, and rushed 10 times for 42 yards. He was probably over 100yds rushing, but faced a furious pass rush with blitzes coming on almost every play and was sacked a few times. He had four drops on balls that were right on the money, but it seemed to never phase him, and he seemed to help his receivers "shake it off."

Although I did HS play by play for six years I am not much of a highly technical guy when it comes to quick releases, progressions, etc .But, here's what I liked about him.

He is definitely a leader - not a rah, rah! cheerleader type but was constantly up and down the sidelines talking to his offense, patting them on the helmet and from my vantage point encouraging them. When the offense would go onto the field after a change of possession, I noticed that it was Tua who was huddled near the sideline talking with the team with the coach standing back on the sideline.

Although a dual threat QB, he is definitely a pass first guy. That impressed me. His pocket presence was surprising to me, since at least in my experience, dual threat QBs look to run at the first sign of pocket breakdown. Several times he stepped up in the pocket and made great throws. He had some scrambles, one on a 4th and 26 play where he showed both strength and speed as he was hit pretty hard about 4 yards short of the first down but stayed on his feet to make it by about a half yard!

I was impressed with his accuracy. I only saw one ball all night that was not on the money, and end zone fade route that was well defended. Honestly, only one. His receivers were hit in stride, did not have to twist or turn to make the catch. On a third and 21 he threw a beautiful deep ball which he released while his receiver was stride for stride with a pretty good CB; his receiver kicked it into gear and got a step and ran under the perfectly thrown ball for a 38 yard gain. When I looked back from where Tua had thrown the ball after he had to scramble it was a little over 50 yards in the air.

We sat with and talked with a lot of folks. I have been coming out here since 2007, doing some work out at Pearl Harbor. Since day one I have been amazed at the number of Bama fans out here- many who have never been past California on the mainland. Almost all around us had watched the OM game and had lots of comments, of course. All positive! "Glad WE pulled it out!" Most seem excited and honored that "one of their own" has a chance to go play at Bama. We saw about a dozen folks, old and young wearing t-shirts that had printed on the front "Roll Tua Roll"!

Some mentioned Oregon, however. And Mariotta is also from Honolulu, and has a lot of influence. Many are also aware that Hurts is just a freshman, and Tua will either have to beat him out, or wait his turn! I don't believe he is afraid of competition and that he stays committed to us.

Just my thoughts!

Football 🏈 Saban, Alabama players discuss magnitude of Iron Bowl

Alabama players and Nick Saban discuss the magnitude of The Iron Bowl.

“No fans will remember any other game you play in,” Will Anderson said. “They will remember the Auburn game."

Women's Soccer Friday Night vs. Duke

Go to this game and you will see three members of the United States Soccer National Soccer Teams on the field in Tuscaloosa. The bad news is that they play for Duke.

The Women are in the round of eight playing in TTown Friday Night at 6:00 for the right to advance to the Soccer Cup Finals. The Winner of this match will meet the winner of Florida State v. Arkansas, which is also Friday Night. Five ACC Teams, UCLA, Arkansas and Alabama are in the round of eight. Duke features an outstanding back line highlighted by Ruthie Jones, who is a top goalkeeper in U.S. Women's Soccer U-23, who is the Keeper for Duke. Goals will be a premium in this game. Duke also features Michelle Cooper another Forward on the US National U-20 Teams and Kat Rader the other Forward on the US National U-20 Team. Kat Rader is the Granddaughter of Dave Rader of Houston Astros fame.

This Duke team is going to be as good as they come and will be a true test for just how far Alabama Soccer has progressed.

To win this game Alabama's Defense will have to be in top form, as this Duke team is elite. We may be a better overall team, but we probably only have one player that is ready to compete on the same level as these three girls. It would not shock me to see #14, Paul, playing on the National Team soon, and Skorka could probably get there as a Defender.

Football Recruiting 2024 Ala. DE Jeremiah Beaman high on the Tide early

Beaman has slowly seen his stock rise as the year’s progressed. He picked up an offer from Georgia yesterday bringing his total offers close to 20 schools.

Beaman is a local kid, who has close ties to the Tide but at the same time he’s enjoying the process.

New SEC Scheduling Model

It now appears that the SEC will not be going to a POD system. The powers seem to be favoring a system, where you play three regular opponents and then play six rotating opponents. That means that Alabama could play Auburn, Tennessee and either LSU/Miss State every year and then play the other twelve teams twice every four years. Basically each team would be drawing their own three team POD, so you could preserve some of the annual rivalries.

Will Reichard Prediction from 2019 ...

As you folks know, I'm not right very often but when my grandson told me about Will when Will was a Junior in HS and Blanton was an instructor at a Chris Sailer kicking camp I listened. Blanton ended up starting 4 years at Louisville and hold numerous records including most accurate FG kicker in their history. Also knowing he's not one for hyperbole got my attention. (Heck, if he hadn't played with Lamar Jackson, he probably would have had 20-25 more attempts! With Lamar almost every time it was 4th and less than 8 on the plus side of the field, Petrino would go for it!)

After that first camp, he told me to be on the look out for him. He said Will was the "real deal" and huge Bama fan ... said he had seen a lot of "camp kickers" who come and do well but Will has that "something special." Also said he was a great kid and not just a great kicker! Based on that, I made this post back in the summer of 2019! Just for grins:

"I'm going to go out on a limb (maybe not so much!) and say that Will Reichard will be the greatest kicker in Bama history! I am not saying he will make 100% of his FGs, but will be our highest percentage and highest scoring kicker of all time. Wow!! Did I really just say that..."
