Alabama's achilles heel

We must be playing JV basketball in the sec.
It’s a tough road game. On a neutral court it would be different. Plus they have some good bigs. We are not going to win every game. Maybe a loss is a good thing. We have performed well the last two and half weeks. Imagine if one of your close friends was charged with Capitol Murder. Remember we are a team on freshman. Bediako is soft and Gurley is lost. Let’s rebound and come out hard second half. Make a game. We might lose but put a better fight. Regroup and get ready for stretch run in SEC.

Our biggest issue is our outside shooting has utterly disappeared. Plus, our defensive effort continues to decline. Tough to win when you can’t shoot, and decide not to play defense.
Not only are we not hitting shots but we're not even close most of the time. Miller airballing threes? Sears hitting side iron? Quinerly hitting way short almost touching underneath the rim?

You are right. This doesn’t even mention Clowney and Welch’s recent outside shooting, which, all joking aside, I could hook shot 3 pointers at a higher %. It isn’t getting better, it is getting worse. Desperately need to reverse that trend.

Yeah, the template is there for beating this Bama team. Play physical and make the officials choose between calling 50 fouls or letting it go. We're just too thin and soft to stand up to teams like this if we don't get help from the officials. Conference teams like A&M, Tenn, Au will all either beat us or make us hit something obscene from 3 point to win. All will be immeasurably more physical than we will be.

Today they let Groves play as physical as a guard in football and never called him for pushing his leg out on screens or shoving guys out of the way in a rebound situation. He should have been in foul trouble 5 minutes into the game and fouled out by halftime.

However, we played so soft and uninterested today that I don't think we win even if the officials called it straight up.

TOO much dribbling, then tried dribbling through Oklahoma...just looked out of sorts and then desperate 3's.....players running into each other...thought the guys were supposed to be spaced out on the floor. Luckily, this was not an SEC game!!!

If you expect the 3 pt shot to bail us out, you haven’t been watching lately. Some of these guys have recent outside shooting %’s where you could kick the ball in more often🤣.

Not trying to be negative and cut the team and this team is very good but for some reason or another and it just may be me, for the Miss. St. and OU game this team has not seemed prepared to play and win. We won on pure talent against Miss. ST. late in the game but today this bunch was zoned out. But, OU had a game like we had against LSU were we could not miss. WE sho nuff got schooled today.

Id take A&M and Tenn right now.

AU and Bama can be a decent matchup

He's the worst poster on this board. And I say that as the 2nd worst.

@pwestbro61
Why? Because I tell the truth for that exact moment in time? I am a big Bama guy/ but also do not hesitate to call out failures and when things need to be corrected.

Must admit/ I do get a kick out of “ baiting” some people on here. And that is what I am doing half the time.

Worst poster? Interesting take.

It’s one game. UConn made us look bad as well but we got better. We’ll have to keep working. We must shoot better. It’s been bad the last 4-5 games.
Actually two. And the two before that we played Missouri and Vandy without their best players, who happened to be big guys. The OP didn’t say we were dead. He just pointed out good big guys could be our demise.

True.our guys are lean but long. We’ll have to toughen up and shoot well, it’s not like we’re not capable. I’ve already been concerned about Tennesse, because they’re mean.

Hopefully we add us a big bruiser in the future. Why not? It’s not like Bediako is some freak 7 footer catching lobs and such.

1% of teams can match another team that has a dominant big. Alabama has faced several and I don’t think it’s their achilles heel. They’ve been too dominant the past month+ to have known what it was before.

Obviously Timme terrorizes every team, but it wasn’t the big guy tonight it was how they attacked the ball screens. OU’s guards dominated the game. Bama has done a great job on Tolu, Walker, Tishbwe and other dominant big men. What has surfaced recently is how they play the PnR. They did drop coverage against Gonzaga and got killed in it. They switched today and got exposed that way. I think they need to get back to hard hedging and scrambling. Cause some chaos and different looks

Dude, dumb this down for people reading this message board. This isn't a basketball coaching forum. Most people on this board don't know that PnR = pick and roll. Come on. We don't need to know your basketball IQ. Just post for the layperson.

Brother the average person that’s been around basketball in their life has seen that acronym before and knows what it means. I’ve used it before and never had anyone complain but you. Sorry to offend you

You'll have to add me to that short list of not knowing what PnR meant. I played bb for 40+ years and have watched for 60 and never heard that acronym. Thanks for dropping some knowledge.

I have been harping on this concept for a few years now. We need a quality big (one with talent, not just tall) to control the middle. All of these fast-twitch guards are nice at times, but they can't control the boards. Our forwards are talented as hell, but they don't have a lot of body mass. Start feeding them steak & potatoes and lay off the watercrest sandwiches. 😎 🍻

In your day, that wasn’t even a thing was it? Y’all passed and cut or passed and screened away I’m guessing.

There is not 5% of people on this board that have any clue what you were talking about. Including me.

The last two games we have had five individuals on the court that ate not playing for each other. There has been little passing and mostly standing and dribbling. There has been little team play.
