What it means

The commitment:

Jerry Jeudy, Rivals100 wide receiver from Deerfield Beach High School in Florida, announced his decision in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday evening. The latest Alabama commitment was also considering Florida, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee.

Jeudy spent a lot of time in Tuscaloosa this summer. He was in town for several days in June and July. The south Florida product is former teammates and remains close friends with Alabama star sophomore receiver, Calvin Ridley.

Most considered Jeudy a lock to Alabama for several months, but it's never an easy task to pull the the state's best out of the Sunshine State.

Jeudy developed tight relationships with several Alabama commitments throughout his recruitment including Tua Tagovailoa, Najee Harris, Mac Jones, VanDarius Cowan, Alex Leatherwood and Markail Benton.

The player

"Alabama is getting a quiet assassin at the position. He is as quiet as a mouse on the field. He doesn't trash talk. He goes out there and takes care of business. He has tremendous route running ability, excellent acceleration and can make plays in the open field. He was a star at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge, The Opening, Alabama's summer camps and Florida's Friday Night Lights camp." ----Andrew Bone

"I think his acceleration is what makes him special," said Rivals.com Southeast recruiting analyst, Rob Cassidy. "He's not a super fast, track-speed guy, but he runs crisp routes and accelerates in an instant. He has reliable hands and solid size. He's a guy that can stretch the field on the outside."

The numbers

Alabama sits with 18 commitments in the 2017 class. Jeudy is the second wide receiver commitment joining Tyrell Shavers, four-star from Lewisville High School in Texas. The numbers will grow tighter in the next few weeks with more commitments expected to announce. The focus here though is wide receiver. DeVonta Smith, Rivals100 wide receiver from Amite High School in Louisiana, will announce his decision on August 15. All signs point to Alabama at this point

A commitment from Smith will give Alabama three elite wide receivers committed in this special class. A lot of eyes remain on Henry Ruggs, four-star wide receiver from Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Ruggs was originally scheduled to announce a decision on August 1, but has decided to wait. The pressure will certainly grow stronger on Ruggs to make a decision. Alabama will not want to wait through the season.

Ruggs has a spot in Alabama's class, but others have named the Tide their favorite including Rivals100 members Mark Webb and Jeff Thomas. Tarik Black and Nico Collins are also still in play for Alabama. This receiver class is a great one. Who will complete the class? Stay tuned....
