TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama worked outside Friday for its fifth practice in preparation for its Citrus Bowl matchup against Michigan on Jan. 1. Players were dressed in full pads as they worked under sunny, 56-degree weather. Here are some notes from the media viewing period.

— LaBryan Ray was participating in drills with the rest of the defensive linemen for the first time since injuring his foot against South Carolina. The junior was wearing a black, no-contact jersey but took part in sled drills.

— Raekwon Davis and Phidarian Mathis led the unit followed by Byron Young and Christian Barmore. Justin Eboigbe and Stephen Wynn Jr. were in the third group while Ray and Braylen Ingraham were in the fourth group.

— Freshman early enrollee Jahquez Robinson was again practicing with the defensive backs. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound cornerback was wearing a shirt and shorts while still going through the NCAA’s acclimatization period. However, he worked with the second-team defense during drills as Brandon Turnage and Scooby Carter were not present during the viewing period.

— Earlier in the day, starting cornerback Patrick Surtain II commented on Robinson.

“He’s a pretty talented guy. He was out there, doing plays with us, doing all the periods with us. He looks good, he’s starting to get caught up a little bit. He’s out there having fun.

— Alabama’s first-team secondary consisted of Josh Jobe and Surtain at cornerback while Shyheim Carter played Star. Jared Mayden and Xavier McKinney were the two safeties, while Christian Harris and Shane Lee were the two inside linebackers. Harris still has a brace on his left knee.

— The second-team secondary featured Robinson and Marcus Banks at cornerback with Jalyn Armour-Davis at Star. Jordan Battle was shadowed at one safety position while Daniel Wright manned the other. At inside linebacker, Markail Benton was shadowed by Ale Kaho next to Jaylen Moody.

— DeVonta Smith looked to be moving better during drills with the receivers. He led one outside group while Henry Ruggs led the other. Smith was followed by Tyrell Shavers and Xavier Williams, while Ruggs was trailed by John Metchie III. Jerry Jeudy led the slot receivers and was followed by Jaylen Waddle and Slade Bolden.

— D.J. Dale (knee) is still absent from practice.

— Running back Trey Sanders (foot) was working on an exercise bike in the indoor facility during practice.

— Tua Tagovailoa (hip) spent the day wheeling around the Mal Moore facility in his motorized scooter. He seems to be in very good spirits.
