It has been interesting to watch the "competency" of Coaches Williams, Smart,
Kiffin, Cristobal and even Coach Saban go up and down like a roller coaster
during this season. As a retired H S basketball coach, I have experienced
to a lot lesser degree what these coaches do. However in my case, it was
not about wins and losses. It was about how much playing time Daddy's
offspring got, so my ability varied from game to game. One year a dad wondered
what trash dump of discarded coaches the AD picked me off of. The next
year, the same parent thought I was in the class of Coaches Wooden, K, Etc.
The difference? You got it-playing time. It is amazing how transparent some
people are and even more amazing they do not realize it themselves. Incidentally,
I had a great relationship with a large majority of parents and thoroughly enjoyed it.
