What made Oats wanna start out in zone?

Davison playing good early.

24-24 with 8 to go in first half. Bama playing down to the competition. Couldn’t buy a basket the first couple minutes. Missing easy rim shots.

It's there for him whenever he wants it. Teams play them to shoot the three so they try to run him off the 3pt line and have a big man waiting at the rim. Q can pull up for that 5 times a game if he wants.

Getting out worked again for rebounds. From the way radio was talking Oats spent the first 10 minutes trying to get them to show more effort.

Why can’t we move the ball and move people around in that situation? Q isn’t going to get anything. All 5 defenders are standing dead still with eyes on him bc our other 4 guys aren’t moving. So it’s so easy to help. And we only have time to make one pass, so the 1 guy guarding 2 on the backside doesn’t have to worry about a 2nd pass.

Bama D not very good at all that half and getting out rebounded 22-13.
Tide was a 14 point favorite.

My only thought on why we tried some zone is Oats is trying to find something that keeps our frontcourt from getting 10 fouls before halftime.

I’m sure it was based on MZ being a poor shooting squad so far this season and it would appear a good play to force them to shoot over the D….unfortunately Kobe Brown has made mince meat of our interior guys’ D and created a bunch of easy looks in the process.

Yeah looked sluggish to start but good intensity the rest of the time. Mizzou is not good and should fade if we keep our foot on the floor. Has any big scored other than Gary's two baskets at the rim??

I don’t just believe these guys aren’t physically playing hard. That’s the easy excuse. Maybe, just maybe, we need to adjust a little for their skill set.
Having a tough time guarding people, then maybe not be so aggressive? Which also makes it hard to rebound.
