Obviously, there are a fair amount of freshmen (but fewer this season than in recent years) that are destined for a redshirt year. But there are several players who have already redshirted that did not see any action against Kent St. when the bench was cleared in the 2nd half.
RB Ronnie Clark, RsSo – no game action in 2016
LB Joshua McMillon, RsFr – no game action in 2106
LB Mehki Brown, RsFr – no game action in 2016
DL O.J. Smith, RsSo – played in only 1 game (WKU)
DL Jamar King, Jr – played in only 1 game (USC)
Jamar King’s lack of playing time concerns me the most as I was hoping he would be someone to provide depth this season and step up big for us in the 2017 season. Maybe he’ll end up redshirting this season?
Mehki Brown posted something on Twitter before the season showing off his increased bulk after spending time with Scott Cochran. Maybe he’s still a work in progress from a technique standpoint?
O.J. Smith not playing against Kent St. might be sending sign a signal that he’s been passed again on the depth chart, most likely by Raekwon Davis.
Ronnie Clark and Josh McMillon still may not be 100% after suffering an Achilles and knee injury respectively.
One Kent St. game observation after the 1st team was retired to the bench…LB Keith Holcombe is aggressive and plays with an attitude. He was a machine out there. All over the place and always around the ball. Maybe this is part of the reason we are starting to see little less of Rashaan Evans?
