About the best we would have hoped for before the game but we had chances and couldn't finish it. Lost the game between 16 and 12 minutes in the second half. We matched them after that but 16 points at Rupp is impossible if they are awake at all. Can't let their energy and crowd carry them out of reach.
Oats has to figure out that sometimes a team wont play through a messy stretch without a minute to calm down a bit. At least use it to switch out a lineup that is being abused.

I didn't get angry, life is too short to get over a random prediction on a message board. But I did think those saying this team would lose 10 or more games this year was dead wrong. Especially after beating the Zags, you couldn't have convinced me this team wasn't destine for a deep run in the tourney...
Agree 100%. Idk why this is in bold all the sudden but… I believe his philosophy is that he wants to keep the game at our pace and not slow it down bc that takes us out of what we do. The issue is bc of our pace when we get out of sorts it can snowball so damn fast we screw ourselves out of a game
Oh great, dumbass male version of Karen chimes in. Did you watch the game Karen? I said it was a dumb play by him but Bama came back after that play and continued to play well. I could understand someone saying this if UK went on a run right after that but that was not the case. Oats refusing to call TOs on the other hand had more impact on them going on a run than anything Miles did...
Damn…I hate that we wasted a career game by Ellis, but UK basically took Bama’s best punch today then pushed them in the mud and took their lunch money for the trouble.

I’m extremely impressed with UK. Elite elite team. The shot making today from all over the floor was incredible. And frankly we matched them for the majority of the game. 2 stretches cost us the game. I’m not disappointed in our guys today at all
Well if you are going to play the style that Bama wants to play, you have to be able to play 9-10 players a game. Or you run into the problems Bama had in Oats first season when he was playing only about 7 a game and they would wear down at the end. The lost a number of game where they were up big in the second half due to this.

Watched entire game - get your know it all panties out of it’s usual wad. Bama was in a really nice flow and the game is stopped for 5 minutes because of what Miles did.
Tough spot. Foul but shack flopped too hard and it cost us the call imo.
And yet they came out and continued to play with that nice flow after the 5 minutes. For there to be a cause and effect situation, the effect has to be present. that dumb play by Miles did not result in a run by UK no matter how many ways you say it...
Rather than taking a wide open 2 pt shot we will dribble to the paint for a heavily contested shot over and over again. I don’t understand Oat’s philosophy and what he’s trying to prove. You play the game to WIN. Not run a system.
I say this repeatedly but… offense is not our issue at all. There is one game all year that we lost bc of offense and it was the first UK game when we couldn’t throw it in ocean. Our losses have come from defense getting cooked. Today I thought UK made a shit ton of contested jumpers more so than just bad defense but there was definitely bad D and rebounding mixed in as well.
our defensive system is compromised when we aren’t elite on ball defenders with our 1 and 2 guards. This team really struggles to defend the dribbler and that has forced us to over help constantly resulting in wide open dishes and/or being way out of position for rebounds. I really think Oats needs more length at guard

Let it go Karen. UK hit 1 out of 2 FT. Bama came right back and hit 3 of 3 FT to go up by 12. Oats decided to ram his TOs up his ass and sit on them like he away does as the other team make a run. That is more egregious to me because Oats has done this in more games than I can count.

Kentucky was called for 7 fouls the whole game. That's not possible. Why even have refs. Just play street ball from here on out. At least it's fair. I can't for the life of me understand how they can call a game so one sided with no repercussions. Makes me sick.
Has little to do with the refs and lot to do with the different styles of play. UK takes the second lowest number of 3s per game in the SEC, while being at the top in 3pt percentage. Alabama takes the most, by far I might add, while being at the bottom in 3pt percentage. Bama took 40 threes that game, UK took 14. Bama was only called for 26 fouls themselves despite the face that UK was driving to the basket at a much higher rate than Bama was all game.
Another thing about the game that I don't understand is Ellis barely touching the ball when UK went on their run at the end of the half to take the lead. He took his last shot at the 7:55 minute mark of the first half and didn't attempt another one until 16:41 in the second half. How is it possible that you have a kid so hot and you not call plays to get him the ball? The most he touched the ball was to inbound it after a UK score.

Miles is our 3rd best 3pt shooter (of only 3 shooting over 30%) and a big athletic kid on a team that has short guards and lacks sufficient shooting already…IMO his role as bench wing is key enough that he almost has to play with the current roster. Bama just needs him to play well and grow up a bit.
Plus he was hardly the only Bama guy to have a rough game yesterday. It was such a mixed bag with some playing very well and a few that really struggled, particularly JQ, Davison (he rebounded well which was needed, but on offense he a lost ball in high weeds), Miles, and it’s not like Shack was particularly efficient (missed every 2 pt shot he took with some ugly blocks)…and those guys collectively got torched on D most of the night, while the inside guys were struggling with Tshiebwe.
It’s easier for me to give the inside guys a bit of a pass because UK has some great bigs, but they were missing 2 starting guards and Bama’s guards still basically stunk up the joint on D and O which is disappointing.
Anybody know why the 3 seconds in the paint rule is rarely applied, if at all? Tshiebwe spent so much time in the paint on offense that he started getting mail. The guy literally ripped rebounds away from our guys like they were in junior high.
I’m definitely not blaming it all on him, but that little loss of self-control seemed to disrupt the excellent rhythm that we had going to start the game. We never seemed to regain it, and Uk took advantage.
Bama’s defensive intensity needs to improve if they are going to continue to rely so heavily on the 3 pt shots.
Correct. Shack made 3 free throws on our next possession after the technical to put us up 44-31. Midway through the second half I checked the score and it was 74-58 Kentucky. That’s a 43-14 run and about as epic of a meltdown as you’ll ever see by a major college team. How is it even possible to have a stretch of basketball that bad? You can’t blame that all on Miles, no matter how ill advised his decision was. That was just a total implosion from our guys.
There was bad on our end but… the shot making from Kentucky in that stretch was more their good than our bad. Sometimes you just tip the cap. Better team outplayed us at our best/close to our best
