Football Recruiting Nimari Burnett

The difference between someone being buried under the bench behind 3-4 guys Vs being a Freshman playing 8 minutes per game is pretty stark. He hasn’t produced much but is clearly a contributor and important to his team. Mac McClung will be gone next year. Look, I’m not saying the kid is a horrible person. I’m just saying if I’m building a program and creating a culture as a coach, I don’t want that kid.
I am with you 100%. If he wants to quit when the season is over and transfer out that is one thing, but to bail mid season is major busch league. (JMPO)

ROLL TIDE!!!!

Good for you. I personally hope nimari Burnett leads us to a championship next year, but if that upsets you then so be it. You seem like the kind of guy who hates our football team because it has guys that flipped on signing day. I recommend trying not to hate teenagers that you don't even know. I don't think that's a healthy way to live your life
Yeah at this point you’ve lost the plot, man... or you’re a troll. In which case I tip my hat to you because you hooked me in.
Have a good night.

I hope you have a good night as well, and I hope nimari burnett has sweet dreams of leading our tide to a championship! Or as you like to call it, a nightmare

Wow. How far are you willing to go with that ethical code? At one point does someone doing what’s best for them with an adverse impact on others become a good thing? I’m hoping in non-message board interactions you aren’t quite as willing to call someone a bad person based on a disagreement.
Uh-oh Lou you failed the purity test! lol I literally LOL'd at "...you're a bad person..."

When I left public school for my current job they offered me on a Friday and they wanted me to start the following Monday. I told them I had to put in a 2 week notice even though I wasn’t legally obligated to do that. However, I refused to screw over my principal and kids in my class but just leaving without a 2 week notice. I almost lost the job because of it. No, I don’t believe your own personal advancement is the only factor in good decision-making.
Had the exact same situation with the exact same result. My soon to be former employer had given me a job when I was struggling. Helped me out and treated me well. No legalities, but even tho I put my new, much netter paying job in jeopardy, I told them I had to give two weeks. You'd think a new employer would respect that.

I'm with Sweetlou10 on this. If he is willing to leave mid season at one team who's to say he won't leave again next year. That leaves a spot open on the roster that could have been used by someone else. And what if someone gets hurt and his playing time increases and he ends up having a good year and decides to stay. If he leaves mid season he would have missed an opportunity. On the flip side it could be a chemistry issue that is causing him to leave not just playing time. It's hard to turn down that kind of talent but leaving mid season raises questions.

I'm on the fence. I don't like that he quit on his team mid season but who knows what was going on with him and his reason for quitting. There's usually more to the story than we all know.

Either way I hope the kid figures everything out

THIS. I don't think anybody likes the idea of a kid leaving mid-season but I do think it's fair to hear him out first. We really have no idea as to the context. Just saying. IMO, it's perfectly reasonable to hear his side of the story before passing judgement. May not change a thing. Could turn out his coach wanted him to try out PF lol and we all understand his leaving. IDK, but none of us do. I agree with Lou's sentiment but I'm not quite ready to apply it just yet. Of course we may never hear his reasoning. Honestly. as much as I don't like it I wouldn't consider not taking a kid with his talent, unless he has a cancerous vibe. CNO knows him well so I doubt that is the case.

Well, it’s clear Oats wants him so I’m sure he knows better than us. I by no means hate the kid or pass judgment on him as a person... I just don’t like leaving mid season. I guess I’m just of the mindset that you committed to this team, coach, school,
And you gotta give them a year. Lacey transferred BC he didn’t like playing PG, but he did it in the offseason. If I’m a college basketball player and my coach asks me to play out of position, I do it. Again, I’m sure he’s a good kid and if we get him I hope he plays well and carries us to the Final Four.

You have to be a troll. Nobody tries this hard to look like a bad person unless trying to get a rise out of people.

What are you even talking about? How on earth does it make someone a bad person for not caring that Burnett left TT mid-season and wanting him on our team? I truly hope all of you who are butthurt about this go root for another school if Burnett does end up coming here.

You are aggressive and condecending. I know Lou only through many years on this forum, but I know he is not who you write he is. Sorry you must be having a bad day, but go somewhere else to direct your anger.
We all have a common bond on this forum.....Roll Tide

He’s not a troll for his opinion, dude. Are you reading his posts? We have others who share his opinion but are able to engage in decent dialogue. I’m definitely not Butthurt about him leaving... just don’t like it.

I thought we had a common in wanting good things to happen for the tide. I want nimari burnett to decide he wants to come help alabama win a championship! If we're all in agreement there then I'm not sure why anyone would think anyone is being angry or aggressive

I never said @RTRfromGA was a bad person. I said he was trying to look like a bad person which is what trolls do. He and Lou both stated their position. One decided to make assumptions about the other's character so that the dialogue would keep going. Another thing trolls do.

i agree. they just dont seem to be sec type players.
I’m not keen on forcing kids out after their frosh years. Jaylen Forbes is averaging just under 16ppg at Tulane this year. That number will only go up... hate we lost him.

Sure. But, sometimes coaches make personnel errors. I mean, Mark Gottfried sat Mikhail Torrance for 2 years. Sometimes coaches fall prey to the microwave mentality of wanting success right away and it cost them a good long term player.

Both of us made assumptions about someone's character if we're being fully accurate here. And I still believe nimari is probably a fine human and anyone that is not ok with him probably has questionable character.

My 2 cents, I agree with Lou. I am all about winning and I am all about the Tide. I don’t like kids that quit on their teams. I didn’t like Blake Barnett quitting on us 4 games into the season. It didn’t hurt us, but it spokes volumes of his attitude. This may be a little different. I am all for giving kids second chances, but how hard is it for him to finish the season part of his team. I hope he comes here and changes for the better.

This last sentence is the difference between you and I. I dont think he needs to "change" because of his decision to transfer. He did what he thinks is best for him. No one should be told they need to "change" because they made a decision they feel is best for them.

No problems with being different. I was brought up to finish what I started, and I am raising my kids the same way. Unless he is in an unsafe situation, he should finish the season for his team. He has caused an unnecessary distraction for his team.

Or.... he wanted to transfer and he figured his best situation was to end it with the team he was ready to move on from and go ahead and start working with the team he wanted to join. If he commits to us and the extra few months of working with our guys help him and our team, is it a bad thing? Are you going to complain if his extra time spent with bama coaches leads us to a better season next year?

I do not know all the transfer rules in basketball. I do remember a 5 star Cali QB that left Bama early because if he left before playing a certain number of games he would be eligible to play the following year. It may be similar in this case. If he knew he was going to transfer and his options were to leave now and have guaranteed eligibility next year or stay through the end of the season and put himself at the mercy of the NCAA regarding eligibility then the smart option is taking guaranteed eligibility. I think we can all agree that when it comes to a Bama decision, don't ever put yourself at the mercy of the NCAA.

We don’t know the whole story. He may have a great reason to leave. Like I said, I believe in second chances. I have no problem with a kid bettering his situation. That is why the transfer portal exists. What I don’t like is anyone quitting in the middle of a season. There is no 4 game rule or anything hampering transfers this year with the whole covid stuff. Texas Tech is having a good season like us. If the coach lied to him, shame on the coach and welcome to life. I am sure it wasn’t the first lie he has been told, and I am sure it won’t be the last. Live and learn from it

Imagine if Alex Reese quit last week because Bruner took his starting position. We would have zero centers for 6 weeks because of Bruner’s injury. It would destroy the team. Instead, he has thrived coming off the bench. He cheers as hard as the walk ons while he is on the bench. Now, he will start for at least a month. Team chemistry is very fragile. Look at where Bama was 4 weeks ago. This team should have folded with all the injuries at Kentucky. What happens next? They rallied and crushed them.

If reese left because he lost his starting spot and he wanted to go somewhere and start i would have said good for him. I would never tell an athlete that he should end his career as a backup simply because it would make me happier. He should do what makes him happier, and if going somewhere else is what accomplishes that then so be it. It would be unfortunate for the team but it wouldn't make me think he was a bad person

I will agree to disagree.
