No new stadium for the Redskins
The Obama administration will likely block plans for a new stadium for the Washington Redskins.
The Washington Post reported Interior Secretary Sally Jewell told D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that the Redskins would be required to change their name before the administration would assist in the construction of a new stadium. The National Park Service, part of the Department of the Interior, owns the land under Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, the same site that city leaders want to demolish to make way for a new venue.
The Redskins have been heavily criticized for their name, which some think is offensive to Native Americans.
