Before we get to practice notes, thought you all might enjoy seeing the team welcome Nick Saban in for his birthday today. Note the table full of cupcakes:
Back to business.
Back to business.
- Alabama was in shells today as it started the week of LSU preparation. It's barely cooled off here in Tuscaloosa, with temperatures still closer to 90 than 80.
- Alphonse Taylor (concussion) was in white and was taking reps with the second team offensive line during the individual portion of drills that we saw. That's a step forward from what he was doing last week but Saban said earlier that he is still considered "day-to-day."
- This is just me reading tea leaves of Saban's comments during his press conference, but I wonder if they've kind of moved on Taylor at RG now. I understand not wanting to rush a guy back from a concussion but it seemed strange to say "We're kind of allowing him to do what he can." Like they're leaving the ball in his court at this point. But that's just my speculation and I could be wrong.
- Lester Cotton, who wasn't taking reps at RG during one day of practice last week, was out with the 1st team offensive line today.
- We did not see the team in nickel or dime packages today but it appeared Hootie Jones was taking some reps at safety with Deionte Thompson working more of a slot role. Was hard to tell without there being a full secondary out there. We'll obviously keep an eye on the secondary this week to see what they do with Minkah Fitzpatrick, Hootie Jones and Tony Brown in Eddie Jackson's absence.
