GENERAL NOTES

GAME CAPTAINS:
Alabama’s captains for tonight’s game at LSU are Mac Jones, Dylan Moses and Patrick Surtain II. Moses went to midfield for the coin toss.

TOUGH TO GET SABAN’S TIDE TWICE: During his tenure at Alabama, head coach Nick Saban has suffered 23 total losses. Of those 23 losses, the Crimson Tide and Saban have had the opportunity to face the team that beat them at a later date on 20 occasions. In those 20 rematches, Alabama owns an 18-2 mark when avenging its previous loss after tonight’s 55-17 win over the Tigers. The only two times the Crimson Tide has fallen in back-to-back games against the same opponent is LSU (2010-2011) and Ole Miss (2014-2015). Alabama has not had the opportunity to bounce back from a loss against Clemson (2018) Ohio State (2014) and Utah (2009). The Tide already avenged its 2019 loss to Auburn with a dominant 42-13 win last weekend over the Tigers.

SABAN’S ROAD RECORD: Head coach Nick Saban owns a 78-32-1 (.707) mark in road games across his four career stops, including a 50-9 (.848) mark while at Alabama. Saban has notched seven perfect road records (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018) and has lost more than one game on the road in only two seasons (2007, 2010). After tonight’s 55-17 win over LSU, Alabama has now won 36 of its last 40 road games dating back to the 2011 campaign.

SABAN IN SEC ROAD GAMES: Head coach Nick Saban owns a 60-16 (.790) mark in SEC road games across his time at LSU and Alabama, including a 50-9 (.857) record with the Crimson Tide. Saban has notched eight perfect SEC road seasons (2003, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018).

UNRANKED, NO PROBLEM UNDER SABAN: With its 55-17 over LSU this evening, Alabama has defeated 97 consecutive unranked teams under head coach Nick Saban, the longest streak in FBS history. The current streak began with a win over Colorado on December 30, 2007 in the Independence Bowl. The previous record was 72 games, shared by Miami (Fla.) (1984-95) and Florida (1989-2000). Over the 97-game stretch, only Ohio State has single-digit losses to unranked opponents with nine. Under Saban, Alabama holds a 101-3 (.971) (97-3, .970 after vacations) mark against unranked opponents.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

ALABAMA SETS A RECORD FOR POINTS vs. LSU:
Alabama wrapped up tonight’s game with 55 points. Those 55 points are the most by the Crimson Tide in any game against LSU in series history. The previous record for points by UA in the series was 47 in a 47-3 win in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 10, 1922.

35-OR-MORE IN 22 STRAIGHT:
The Crimson Tide scored 55 points in this evening matchup with LSU, including 45 in the first half. That total marked the 22nd straight game that Alabama’s offense has scored 35-or-more points, which is the longest streak in major-college football history. Oregon scored at least 35 points in 15 consecutive games from Nov. 5, 2011 through a Nov. 17, 2012 loss to Stanford by a score of 17-14. Alabama’s last game of not posting 35-or-more points came in the Tide’s 44-16 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Jan. 7, 2019.

SCORING 38-PLUS ON THE ROAD: Included in Alabama’s 21 straight games of 35-or-more points is a streak of eight straight road games with 38-plus points scored. That streak ties the current Ohio State team for the second-longest stretch of 38-or-more points on the road in the Associated Press Poll Era (since 1936). The only program with a longer run was Oregon with the Ducks posting a nine-game streak from 2011-13.

600+ YARDS OF TOTAL OFFENSE: Alabama eclipsed the 600-plus yard mark by rolling up 650 yards of total offense at LSU. The Crimson Tide has gone over the 600-yard marker only eight times prior to the matchup with the Tigers, most recently at Ole Miss on Oct. 10, when the UA produced 723 yards of offense against the Rebels.

QUICK STRIKE:
The Crimson Tide has scored 59 touchdowns this year with four coming from the defense. The Tide offense is averaging six touchdowns per game (55 touchdowns) with an astonishing 37 of those scores coming on drives of less than three minutes – or 67.3 percent. Of those 37 drives under three minutes, 34 of those have been in under 2:30 and 22 have been in less than two minutes. Alabama also has 21 touchdown drives in five plays or less with 14 of those in four plays or less.

STACKING UP 100s:
Alabama’s explosive offense has produced 12 individual 100-plus yard receiving performances through nine games this season, including at least one 100-plus yard receiver in every game. The Crimson Tide has also had multiple players in the same game over the 100-yard mark in three contests in 2020. Those numbers by the Tide wideouts are even more impressive due to the fact that they have come against SEC defenses. For perspective, Alabama’s offense produced 11 100-plus yard efforts through 13 games last season and did so 13 times in 15 games during 2018 across conference and non-conference pairings.

FIRST-HALF 100s:
DeVonta Smith recorded 219 yards receiving in the first half of tonight’s game. With Smith’s 219-yard half, Crimson Tide wideouts have totaled 100-plus yards in the first half on 11 occasions in UA’s last 22 games, including the first three games to start the 2020 campaign and six of nine contests overall this season.

OPENING DRIVE TOUCHDOWNS: Running back Najee Harris weaved his way through the Tiger defense for a 14-yard touchdown run on Alabama’s opening drive of tonight’s game. With that score and the eventual 55-17 win for UA, the Crimson Tide extended its winning streak to 38 straight games when scoring a touchdown on the first offensive possession of the game. The Tide’s last loss after finding the end zone on its first drive was to the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl.

SCORING STREAK CONTINUES: Alabama extended its school record for consecutive games with a score to 264 thanks to Najee Harris’ 14-yard touchdown run on the Crimson Tide’s opening drive. The Crimson Tide was last held off the scoreboard in a 9-0 loss to Auburn on Nov. 18, 2000. Alabama has a 209-55 (.792) record over the course of the current streak.

60-PLUS FOR JONES: Mac Jones finished the first half of tonight’s game with two touchdowns of 60-plus yards finding DeVonta Smith for a 65-yard score followed by a 61-yard strike. The two touchdowns of 60-plus yards were his fifth and sixth such touchdowns this season, tied for the third-most in a season by an SEC quarterback over the last 15 seasons. Only Drew Lock (2017) and Tua Tagovailoa (2018) had more.

THREE (RUSHING) AND THREE (RECEIVING): Alabama’s Najee Harris rushed for three touchdowns while wide receiver DeVonta Smith caught three touchdown receptions on the night. The three rushing, three receiving touchdown effort from the seniors in the same game marked the first time in program history that Alabama has had a player score three rushing touchdowns and another player notch three receiving scores.

SMITTY vs. LSU:
The LSU defense hasn’t had an answer for DeVonta Smith in the last two seasons. The Louisiana native posted 213 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches in 2019 and followed that up with eight catches for 231 yards and three touchdowns in tonight’s contest.

HE’S HEATING UP:
DeVonta Smith has put together a monster season in 2020 but his numbers have been near unbelievable over his last four contests to propel him into the Heisman Trophy conversation. The senior has recorded 749 yards and 11 touchdowns on 35 catches across the current streak. In the games against Mississippi State (Oct. 31), Kentucky (Nov. 21) and then-No. 22/22/19 Auburn (Nov. 28), Smith totaled 144 or more receiving yards and at least seven catches while posting multiple touchdown receptions in all three games.

SEVEN-GAME STRETCH FOR SMITTY:
Despite starting the season with back-to-back solid games, DeVonta Smith has leveled up in his last six starts. Since the start of the Ole Miss game, Smith has totaled 1,153 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 66 receptions. He’s averaging 9.4 receptions per game and 17.5 yards per catch over that stretch along with 164.7 receiving yards per game and 2.0 touchdowns. All six of his 100-plus yard performances have come during the seven games, including a 231-yard effort against LSU. The senior has also posted seven-plus catches in all seven games while totaling two-or-more touchdowns in five of those contests.

SMITTY OVER 100 AGAIN: DeVonta Smith finished the first half of tonight’s game with 219 yards receiving to go over the 100-yard marker for the sixth time this season. He finished with 231 receiving yards by game’s end. Those six 100-plus yard performances give him 11 for his career as he entered his senior campaign with five in hand. Smith totaled two in 2018 and followed that up with three as a junior a season ago. His 11 100-plus yard performances are the third-most in Alabama history.

200-PLUS FOR SMITH: DeVonta Smith finished the first half against the Tigers with 219 yards and total 231 on the night for his fourth career 200-plus yard receiving effort, his second against LSU, and the 11th instance in program history. Smith was previously tied with Amari Cooper at three for the UA all-time record.

200-PLUS HALF BY SMITTY: Senior DeVonta Smith totaled 219 yards and three receiving touchdowns in the first half of tonight’s game. The impressive half was the second 200-plus, three-plus touchdown performance of his career, pairing with his eight-catch, 221-yard output against Ole Miss last year on Sept. 28 that featured four touchdown receptions. The two career 200-plus, three-plus touchdown halves are the most by an FBS player in the last 15 seasons.

SMITH OVER 1,200 TWICE: Senior DeVonta Smith has accumulated 1,305 to eclipse 1,200 yards for the second consecutive season. He became just the third player in SEC history with 1,200 receiving yards in multiple seasons joining only A.J. Brown (Ole Miss) and Jordan Matthews (Vanderbilt).

SMITH LOOKING TO SET ALL THE CAREER RECORDS: Wide receiver DeVonta Smith passed up the 2020 NFL Draft to return for his senior season and is in the process of rewriting the Alabama record books. Smith has totaled 198 catches for 3,414 yards and 38 touchdowns while averaging 17.2 yards per grab. He already owns the career touchdown receptions mark and ranks in the top five of the other major receiving categories.

HARRIS FOR SIX: Najee Harris has racked up 20 rushing touchdowns during his senior season. With his two first-half touchdowns and three total scores tonight, Harris has now totaled at least one touchdown in eight of the Crimson Tide’s nine games and two-or-more scores in six of those contests.

1K FOR NAJEE: Najee Harris entered tonight’s contest with 893 yards and added 145 to that with his effort against the Tigers to push his season total to 1,038. The senior went over the 1,000-yard marker for the second time in his career after totaling 1,224 as a junior in 2019.

100-PLUS FOR HARRIS: Najee Harris finished the first half with 118 yards rushing and 145 by night’s end for his 11th 100-plus yard rushing game for his career and his fourth this season. The 11 100-yard rushing games tie T.J. Yeldon for the eighth-most career 100-plus yard performances. The Alabama all-time mark is 16 by Derrick Henry (2013-15).

HARRIS MOVING UP THE CHARTS: After carrying 21 times for 145 yards and three touchdowns against LSU, Harris has totaled 3,415 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns for his career. Those numbers include 783 yards and four scores as a sophomore to go with 370 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman, in addition to his junior totals. Alabama’s all-time leader for career rushing yards is Derrick Henry with 3,591 from 2013-15 while the career rushing touchdowns leader is split between Mark Ingram (2008-10) and Henry at 42.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

LAST 22 QUARTERS FOR THE TIDE DEFENSE:
Alabama’s defense has come into its own over the last 22 quarters of football (5.5 games). Since halftime of a 41-24 win over then-No. 3/3 Georgia on Oct. 17, Alabama has only allowed 50 points (0 to UGA; 17 at Tennessee; 0 vs. Mississippi State; 3 vs. Kentucky; 13 vs. Auburn; 17 at LSU) or 9.1 points per game. The Crimson Tide has allowed an average of just 69.7 yards per quarter (1,533 yards in 22 quarters) in that same time frame or 278.7 yards per game. The impressive stretch as of late has helped propel Alabama into the SEC’s top spot for scoring defense at 18.3 points per game.

TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS: Alabama’s defense forced and recovered a fumble in tonight’s win at LSU. With that, the Crimson Tide has forced at least one turnover in 75 of the last 81 contests dating back to the start of the 2015 season. During the current run, Alabama has forced 135 turnovers (89 interceptions, 46 fumbles) and returned 29 of those miscues for touchdowns.

SEASON HIGH SACKS: Alabama recorded a season-high 5.0 sacks in tonight’s win over the Tigers. Coming into the game, the Tide had 14.0 sacks on the season. It is the most sacks in a game since Alabama had 5.0 last year against LSU.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

PERFECT SO FAR FOR REICHARD:
Alabama placekicker Will Reichard is currently perfect on all kicking attempts during the 2020 season. The sophomore is 69-for-69 overall, including 10-of-10 on field goals to go with 59 made PATs in as many attempts. Reichard has also contributed on kickoffs, totaling 2,581 yards on 48 boots for a 53.8 yards per kick average with seven touchbacks.

11 IN A ROW FOR REICHARD: Dating back to last season, placekicker Will Reichard has made 11 straight field goals, including all 10 attempts in 2020. The streak of 11 straight makes is the fourth-longest in the country. Arizona State’s Cristian Zendejas leads with 13 straight made field goals.
