May be one of the most disappointing I’ve watched. Horrible play, horrible coaching, and zero heart. I hope Oats actually takes some responsibility for this….

JD is massively overrated at this stage of his career
How he is projected as an NBA pick is mind boggling
Big off-season for Oats. Disappointing performance as he could not reach this team plus a new arena on the horizons plus the turnover in the SEC.
Then I also loved how UK pivoted from last year.

I can tell this thread will turn into something special.
He should take all the responsibility, but he won't. We went 11-13 after the Houston game. This was one of the worst coaching jobs by an Alabama coach that I have ever seen. We also finished on a 4 game losing streak. When was the last time we had a 4 game skid?
He has lost a bunch of goodwill from fans.
He just kept trying to force a square peg in a circle and he should have known to adjust somehow
We would’ve topped that if the season had been a couple of games longer.
First team we’ve had in the tournament back to back seasons since 05… if he’s losing goodwill with fans that’s more a commentary on the intelligence of our fans than him.
It is about the product on the court. And there are beyond alarming signs to be concerned about.

I have been critical this year lately because of the product and the lack of improvement. That is on the staff.
Opposing coaches are on to the sets and bama couldn’t adjust this year.

I’m not into pissing matches. I’m sure you’re a basketball genius. I watched the previous probably 1,000 games… so, yes I watched the last 25.
The product on the court was frustrating, no doubt. The product on the court was also a 6 seed in the ncaa tournament. You’re one of the posters who often highlights (correctly) our irrelevance for 30 years.
Had no business being a 6 seed based on last 2 month’s performance. And got dominated by an 11 seed. And yes/ have sadly been irrelevant for a long time.
They were only a 6 seed by what they had done earlier in the year. They were playing at an NIT level now unfortunately.
Hopefully Nate rights the ship but there are red flags at this point.
We weren’t even NIT level after the Houston game. We went 11-13 from that game on.

You have to have a winning record to be considered for post season play unless you receive an automatic bid. With that being the case, we weren’t NIT level after the Houston game. That’s not hating. That’s just stating facts.
After stepping away, I think the biggest problem with this team was the new guys just not panning out (Gurley, Frenchie, Burnett due to injury, JD not living up to the hype, etc.). Really never had a leader on the team either. I definitely am not a part of the fire Oats crowd but I think a massive overhaul of the lineup is needed. His system just isn’t going to work when you do not have guys who can consistently or are scared to shoot the 3.

My favorite part is he openly admits to not even watching the games then pops in with his opinion as soon as it goes bad

The end of this season was so Mark Gottfried era like that it is scary. Similar in many ways- all bad.
AMEN. I have never and never will, be satisfied with just making the tourney. After the Memphis loss, this team started on a roller coaster ride that culminated in a nose dive that Oats couldn't pull the team out of. I'll give Oats two more years to right the ship. If the team is still floundering in March 2024, then pull the plug.
Sometimes wonder if there is a perpetual curse of mediocrity or less for Tide basketball. One good season every 15 years or so and then back to our reality.

I dont think anyone considers this season like the target goal for Bama bball. Especially going 0-4 in March. Extremely disappointing finish to an otherwise good not great season. But it’s ALL about how you finish. It felt like this team had figured it out again then that TAM game just broke them.
I just think perspective has to be there. This roster wasn’t quite what we planned on back in the summer. This program is not a 6+ seed sweet 16 mainstay program over the last 25* years and I think the more positive fans are kind of alright with this type season if it’s kind of our baseline. I WANT to be top 2-3 in conference, win conference titles every other season, get 1s and 2 seeds, and make final 4 runs but I don’t think that’s going to ever be a consistent reality for alabama basketball. I think we do more harm than good if it becomes a fir-able offense to not be that
Imo I’m ok making 4-5 tournaments, 2 of the 4 tournaments being better than a 5 seed and a second weekend run. I think if we make the 2nd weekend of the tournament 2 of 5 years then will get us a final 4.
I don’t want to see oats ditch his system bc I think this system will win big with the right roster.. it does need to be tweaked offensively and defensively Imo but not a drastic overhaul. We have to remember it’s year 3 and maybe we were ahead of schedule in year 2 and the expectations were lifted too high too fast.
I can’t wait to see how we fill the roster out for next year. I agree it’s a big year for oats. Regression would be very discouraging in year 4
The question was asked when was the last time we had a 4 game losing streak. I’m fine with chit chatting about the only coach to win two sec titles in 30 years and take us to back to back tournaments in over 15 years.
Bruce Pearl has been at Auburn 8 years. He’s had two teams win a game in the sec tournament. They had one really good year and another fantastic season this year in 8 years. And this year they tanked as badly as we did in the home stretch. This board’s elevation of Pearl is quite puzzling.
Barn has had 5 25 win seasons in their history. 4 of them under Pearl. And a Final Four- which Bama has never done.
Plus, JQ was playing great at the end of last season. His game just disappeared this year in comparison. I think that hurt us as much as anything.
