In think they try to be fair in the article.
They highlight how much more is spent on men's sports at the D1 Level than women's sports because of football. They failed to say if not for football they could shut down the rest of the programs.

Title IX has been good for women's sports but the rule has be TERRIBLE for men's minor sports.
Since 1988 over 300 men's teams have been CUT and over 800 women's teams added.

One thing we can count on is some will be wanting more and more for the ladies.
It seems there could be away to give the ladies opportunities without detracting opportunities for young men. It seems just as unfair to not have a men's gymnastics team as it would be if we had a men's track team but not a ladies track team.

Football is the cash cow but it works to penalize other men's sports. Helps explain why our men's Olympic gymnastic team, World Cup Soccer etc ... fail to measure up.
