NIL & Other Sports

AD Byrne and CNS testified before congress on pending legislation regarding finances in college athletics. For those in favor of significant payments (in addition to the $93K annually spent on athletes) to football players, if this occurs most of the 19 other sports at U of A would go away. Alabama looses $40 mil. per year on these other athletic programs, and it’s paid by football + some basketball revenues.

I think that if some restrictions, in the form of legislation aren’t put in place, that college sports as we know it might crash and burn.

Hoops 🏀 Nate Oats Friday presser

Nate Oats said guys were moving a bit slow this morning and practice started later but Alabama had a good practice.
Oats said Rylan Griffen has not gone life but is doing more basketball activity: "We're hopeful he can play on Friday." Griffen will be a game-time decision.
Oats said he'll watch the Georgia-Missouri game tonight
Oats: "We don't want to diminish the fact we had a great year." He said he wants to make up for missing out on a regular-season title with a SECT win.
On Latrell Wrightsell Jr.'s significance: "He makes open shots and he really guards. He follows the scouting report and he knows what to do." Said if Alabama can get both Wrightsell and Griffen back that will be its best chance at a title.
On not knowing an opponent: "You split the scouts up between the staff." Oats said it's different from the NCAA Tournament. He said today we went over some stuff for Kentucky and Florida/Georgia/Missouri yesterday.
On Latrell being back to conditioning fully: "I thought he's looked great in practice all week, If he's not 100% he's close. I'd say he's about 90-95%
Oats said Sam Walters and Jarin Stevenson both had good practices this week.
Oats on Nick Pringle's improved vocality: "He's gotten a lot better over the last month."
Oats said Pringle called Alabama’s next potential few games “a get-back tour.” “All three of those teams, those are the last three teams that beat us."

Continuing on in the poll / voting for the All-Saban Era Team - Offense, we now move to the Center position in this ballot. A number of excellent centers from early in the Saban era through recent seasons. Again, we have been blessed as fans to have some outstanding centers during Saban's time. Please vote on (1) Center listed in the poll.
I have not included Barrett Jones and Ross Pierschbacher in this poll for Center. because they have already been included in the poll for Offensive Guards, and have been trending in that poll as 1st and 2nd Team Guards respectively.

Football Recruiting Alabama commit Anthony Rogers will transfer to Carver High School for senior season

Anybody catch Bucky McMillan on the radio this morning?

Think it was on “The Pressbox” and I caught the tail end of it. He was talking about the analytics behind his, and what sounded like CNO, system. Don’t remember the exact numbers but he was basically saying the data says a 3 point attempt, on avg will yield 1.4 pts per possession. Free throws and shots at the rim around the same avg. Mid range shots result in .7 points per possession. Basically said if you focus on driver, pitching wedge, and putter you’ll be better than almost everybody else at golf so why congest training and in game decisions with a whole plethora of options when the data says simplify things. Probably not new information to many of you and not going to change opinions but it was nice to hear it discussed. Oh and he is 23-3 at Sanford this season.
