During the Saban era it’s usually taken a superior effort by the opposing QB to defeat us…my guess is that trend will continue this year…last year it was Hooker and Daniels, and in years past the likes of Watson, Manziel, Newton, Chad Kelly and most recently, Bennett…even Calzado from A&M played the game of his life and hasn’t repeated it since…
This year we will face a regular gauntlet of experienced and productive QB’s, starting with Ewers from TEXAS…as you recall, many felt like they would have beaten us last year had he not gotten hurt…Ole Miss has a couple of guys, but my guess is Sanders from Ok State ends up with the job…very impressive stats and has played a lot of winning football…Rogers from M. State needs no introduction and is very competent as well…
The young kid at A&M looks like he is hitting his stride and then we get the monster Jefferson from Arky…glad that one is in T-Town…Tennessee will play Milton, who at 35 years old and on his 5th school (sic) can be dangerous and capable of either an off the charts performance or a complete bust…which one you betting on against us…another game in Bryant Denny which is good…
The stretch run finishes up at home with Jayden Daniels from LSU, the exact type of QB that gives us fits, as he did last year…he didn’t have a great game overall but made the players when he needed to to beat us…Kentucky will roll out Devin Leary another transfer who has played a ton of good football at NCSU, and will be high on a lot of draft boards next year…this one is in Lexington, which isn’t a terrible place to play on the road…ending the season with Robbie Ashford will be interesting as many believe Hugh will find a way to make him a pain in the ass for the opposition…glad we are in Bryant Denny and not at the voodoo palace to end the season…
So the point of this is we will need Kevin Steele to do a great job getting the boys ready each week to face these QBs…I like many here was not real impressed with the game planning and in game adjustments made by Golding the last few years…some of that is on Saban, as we all know he has final authority…hard for me to believe that the lunacy that went on in Knoxville last year was all on Pete…as I’ve said before, Saban’s Achilles heel if he has one is his in game coaching and adjustments…he believes what he believes and goes down on his shield…
I’m excited to see how we deploy what may be one of our top 3 talented defenses, which I believe will be a key to our season…without Bryce or Mac it’s stands to reason our offensive production will take a hit, making the defensive performance all the more important this year…
Looking forward to @Ducky Lee‘s 1st roll call of 2023!
