Alabama's Brandon Miler wins USBWA's Wayman Tisdale Award

Alabama freshman Brandon Miller has won the 2022-23 Wayman Tisdale Award as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's National Freshman Player of the Year.

Alabama Softball... Honest Assessment.

I know I have spent a great deal of time detailing in a negative manner the struggles of the softball program the last couple of years.
Have been watching Alabama softball pretty consistently for about 15 years now. Have taken great pride in that program and the high level of success they have achieved. Pretty much the 2nd most successful program in Tuscaloosa.
It is a very different softball world right now nationwide. Money has been poured into programs everywhere and great coaches have been hired at schools that never cared about softball.
Bama softball was still on top of the world just 2 years ago when Bama needed only one win to get to CWS final with a fresh Montana Fouts available. Murphy botched that advantage badly.
And then something went badly wrong halfway through last season. Team was 21-0 and it fell apart. Team failed to win a regional for first time in 15 years and 6 players transferred the hell out of Tuscaloosa. Murphy runs off a great player who went to Arkansas and won an SEC title.
A year after Skylar Wallace left for Florida.
Pretty clear something went wrong with the “ culture”.

And now we have a team that has lost to Lehigh, Kennesaw St and Texas St. ( out hit 10-2 by Texas St).
Hitting issues persist and no decent #2 pitcher.

Player development is non existent last 3-4 years/ players actually regress badly. Are better their freshman season than they are as a junior/ senior.

Just hate to see the program regressing this badly. Nothing lasts forever I guess.

Football Recruiting Rivals Combine Alabama: Final Thoughts

Dothan (Ala.) played host to the Rivals Camp Series this weekend. Players from across the state poured in to see how they stand.

Here are the details:

Since we have until Friday….

And this is off the subject of basketball. Every now and then an old video will surface on Facebook that shows Big AL completely pummeling the Gator mascot before a game. What do they do? Arrange this before the game or does Big Al just decide to kick his ****.I’ve just always wondered if this is completely staged and if so, why would the Gator allow it.? Or did Bama just buy a Gator mascot costume?

For those that think San Diego State will be easy, think again!

San Diego State is an excellent Basketball team that was able to take an Arkansas Team, with Brazile to overtime. San Diego State shoots the 3 point shot at a 35.7% clip, averages over 7 steals a game and only 11 turnovers a game. The Aztecs are heavy on Seniors and players that could be in their final game.

Even though I say they played Arkansas extremely tough, it should be noted that they only beat Troy by 5 in San Diego and they have gone 29-6. The so-called experts had them rated 18th in the last college poll, which means they are well thought of. Alabama will have their hands full on Friday late afternoon.

Experts guide to the San Diego State Game.

Also remember that Alabama has been to the Sweet 16 ten times and has only advanced to the Elite 8 once.

ESPN Article: Mike Anderson is suing St. Johns

According to the termination letter obtained by ESPN, Anderson was fired for "failure to create and support an environment that strongly encourages student-athletes who are in the men's basketball program to meet all university academic requirements," "failure to perform your duties and responsibilities in a manner that reflected positively on St. John's University ... in actions [that] brought serious discredit" to the school and "failure to appropriately supervise and communicate with your assistant coaches."

What Nick Saban said in his first press conference of spring practice

Welcome back to football season, well the spring portion of it anyway. Alabama head coach Nick Saban will speak to the media after the team's first spring practice. Saban is expected to begin his press conference around 6 p.m. Check back in for live updates.

— Nick Saban: "I was very impressed with the way our team went about the offseason program and the progress we made not only in conditioning but also in simulated training."

— Saban said Jalen Milroe "made a lot of plays" and "in a different way than Bryce made plays." Saban said Ty Simpson is "also someone we think has developed and made a lot of improvement and has a lot of potential to be a pretty good player."

— Nick Saban: "Hopefully we have some players that step up and become leaders." Saban said they have not yet picked a leadership group but they have an "advisory committee" that advises the rest of the players on Saban's message. "They have to earn the right to [be leader]."

— Saban on Alabama's 2023 O-line: "I like the players that we have in the offensive line. I think we have some bigger, more physical."

— Kevin Steele will walk around and coach the entire defense while Travaris Robinson will coach the entire secondary for Alabama.

— Saban: Deontae Lawson and Dallas Turner are probably "out of the spring completely" after surgeries. "Shouldn't be any issues for them moving forward," he added.

— Roydell Williams and DeVonta Smith are recovering from injuries but are expected to return in the spring. Robbie Ouzts, Jah-Marien Latham and Justin Eboigbe are limited.

— Saban said Tony Mitchell has been suspended from the team and all team activities. Our story: https://alabama.rivals.com/news/alabama-head-coach-nick-saban-gives-update-on-tony-mitchell
