Women's signee Essence Cody is named a McDonald's All-American

She's a member of our 2023 class, which may be the best in program history.

Congrats to Essence! I look forward to watching her play here.

Thoughts?

Only a brain dead fan base could lose 7 of 8 games over the past 15 years to Alabama, greet Alabama the visiting team as they walk on to the field by barking at them like dogs and lose 38-10, call for a blackout game and be down 30-0 at the half, have an overall losing record to that team, copy the Alabama team in every possible way, finally beat Alabama ONE time on a last minute play while Alabama team had multiple season ending injuries to key players after embarrassing that team 1 month earlier would declare dominance over Alabama. The only reason the won/loss record isn’t worse than it is, is because that team wasn’t good enough to win the east division of the Sec year after year, and the east was weak as water.

only a Poll-Lock would think this.

Alabama signs new deal with LEARFIELD, adds NIL Center

The University of Alabama Department of Athletics has extended its multimedia rights relationship with longtime partner LEARFIELD in a move that helps deliver elevated service offerings and customized programs to Crimson Tide fans and student-athletes.

The new 15-year agreement, one of the longest and most integrated in college athletics, builds on the traditional components that have encompassed the relationship since 1998 with several new strategic initiatives including an original content platform in collaboration with LEARFIELD Studios, and access to robust data and analytics enhancements via the company’s Fanbase infrastructure to better connect with Alabama fans.

A highlight of the new agreement is a first-of-its-kind, dedicated NIL hub called The Advantage Center, which will serve as the epicenter of support for name, image and likeness (NIL) endeavors for the more than 600 Crimson Tide student-athletes. LEARFIELD and Alabama Athletics will collaborate on the development of the center to provide a physical home and team of dedicated staff to provide education and resources for student-athletes with respect to NIL opportunities, as well as a location to showcase successful local and national NIL relationships.

“LEARFIELD is the industry leader in cutting-edge fan engagement and brand connectivity. Continuing to partner with LEARFIELD will provide us with the resources and innovative solutions to deliver on our mission of providing the best student-athlete and fan experiences possible,” said Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. “The new NIL center and plans for exciting new content for our fans are just a few examples of the ways in which LEARFIELD will continue to help us be the leader in college athletics for years to come.”

The Advantage Center builds on the initiative started by Alabama Athletics in May 2021 to educate and provide the tools necessary for Crimson Tide student-athletes to build and elevate their personal brands. The new center will be located in Bryant-Denny Stadium next to The Authentic, UA’s retail store powered by Fanatics, which provides NIL opportunities through branded licensed merchandise.

“We’re thrilled to continue working alongside Greg and the outstanding leadership at Alabama, enhancing this longstanding partnership with the most innovative solutions in college sports,” said LEARFIELD President & CEO Cole Gahagan. “From industry-leading data management and content to a first-of-its-kind NIL destination for Crimson Tide student-athletes, the investments that LEARFIELD and the University of Alabama are making to benefit fans, brands and student-athletes is extraordinary.”

The longtime LEARFIELD and Alabama ties extend well beyond the agreement for multimedia rights. LEARFIELD-owned companies Paciolan and SIDEARM Sports also represent the Crimson Tide for ticketing and the official athletics website RollTide.com/app, respectively. Additionally, LEARFIELD’s licensing division, CLC, has been the exclusive licensing agent for Alabama since 1981. Crimson Tide Sports Marketing, led by Vice President and General Manager Jim Carabin, oversees all aspects of the comprehensive multimedia rights relationship and manages the corporate partner platform with all athletics’ sponsors.

“We thank Cole (Gahagan) and the entire LEARFIELD team, including Jim (Carabin) and everyone at our local property, Crimson Tide Sports Marketing,” added Byrne. “Our solid relationships at both the local and national level have been instrumental in our success, and we look forward to the continued collaboration as we expand and lead in this space. Also, we thank LEONA for its work in serving as a consultant throughout the process that helped lead to this landmark deal.”

LEARFIELD is a leading media, data and technology services company in intercollegiate athletics. The company unlocks the value of college sports for brands and fans through an omnichannel platform with innovative content and commerce solutions. LEARFIELD services includes licensing and multimedia sponsorship management; publishing, audio, digital and social media; data analytics; ticketing, ticket sales and professional concessions expertise; branding; campus-wide business and sponsorship development. Since 2008, it has served as title sponsor for the acclaimed LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup, supporting athletic departments across all divisions.

Coach Frank Thomas

Was reading some today about Coach Thomas since it's a very slow college football period. Kinda interesting. Thought I'd shared a few things for those who may not know too much about him......

Thomas ranks only behind Bear Bryant and Nick Saban in total wins and winning percentage.

He was Alabama’s Head coach from 1931 - 1946

His Alabama coaching record was 115 wins, 24 losses, 7 ties.

He won 4 Southeastern Conference titles and 2 National Titles. He never had a losing season in his career.

Players he coached at Alabama were Paul Bryant, Don Hudson, Dixie Howell, Harry Gilmer, Vaughn Mancha, and Johnny Cain.

Thomas was a star athlete in High School lettering in football, track, basketball and baseball.

He played quarterback under Knute Rockne at Notre Dame. According to Rockne, Thomas was the smartest player he ever coached. Rockne told his coaches, “It’s amazing the amount of football sense that Thomas kid has. He can’t miss becoming a great coach some day." Frank Thomas graduated from Notre Dame with a Law Degree but wanted to give coaching a one year try. He never looked back.

During Alabama’s 1934 season under Thomas, they outscored opponents 316-45. This was the season that prompted the famous quote from Tennessee coach General Robert Neyland: “You never know what a football player is made of until he plays against Alabama.”

In 1945, his team outscored opponents 430-80.

Thomas was hired as Alabama’s Head Coach by George Denny. Coach Wallace Wade recommended Frank Thomas and pushed for him to succeed him as head coach.

Alabama’s practice field, Thomas Field, is named after Frank Thomas.

After graduating from Alabama, a young Paul Bryant was hired at Union College in Tennessee to install the Notre Dame Box offense. He was making $170 a month when Frank Thomas called him and hired him to Alabama in 1936 as an assistant coach. Bryant always had a great admiration for Coach Thomas.

Thomas was the first in his family to attend college. His family recalls him as a very loving husband and father. One of his daughters was mentally handicapped.

Thomas often smoked cigars on the sidelines during games. During his final season as Alabama's coach, he had trouble standing for periods of time due to health problems related to his heart condition and high blood pressure. Because of his declining health, he resigned in 1946 from coaching and in order to help with the care of his mentally ill daughter. He stayed on at Alabama as it’s Athletic Director for a couple of years.

He was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame as a Charter Member in 1951. He died at age 55 in 1954 and is buried at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.

NFL Playoffs

How about the 27 point come back last night for the Jaguars? I’m guessing the Chargers coach will be unemployed soon.
Dolphins are working on doing the same today vs the Bills after being down 17-0.
Lester Cotton is playing for the Dolphins today. Best I can tell this is his second career start. Crazy bc it seems like he’s been gone forever.
It’s crazy how many Bama guys are still hanging around that I couldn’t name them off if I had to.
