It’s Happening

The CFP for Alabama, that is. All that’s need is one of two things to happen next week.

a.) TCU loses the Big 12 Championship Game or
b.) USC loses the PAC 12 Championship Game.

One of those is going to happen. Kinda hope it is USC, as then you’re comparing 2 two-loss teams without conference championships. Initially was cheering bigly for Notre Dame tonight, but now see them losing to USC as a good thing as it hurts Ohio State’s SOS. Especially if “b” from above happens, they’d be the only ones with even argument to get in over us. Pretty sure the waxing they took from Michigan today eliminates them regardless.

Alabama Outlasts #1 UNC in 4 OT 103-101

Wow. Wow. Wow. What a game that was! If I had a cardiologist, I’d have to make an emergency appointment.

Noah Clowney went down 3 minutes into the game and when your playing against Nance and Bacot, that typically spells disaster. Give credit to this young, gutsy team. They play with so much heart and they outlasted a team that is so talented and experienced.

In a game where Brandon Miller had his worst game of his young career and Quinerly shot poorly in the second half and the rest of the game, Alabama had numerous guys like Mark Sears who scored 24 and Bediako who scored 14 as well. Sears played 55 minutes and was a +12 when he was on the court. He was such a difference maker.

Alabama was +27 in the 3 point department and that made up the difference of getting outscored 52-40 in the paint. Alabama made a great effort of being even in the rebounding category against a team much larger than they are, especially when losing Clowney so early.

Miller shot 4/21. Quinerly shot 8/26. That won’t happen again. If you told me those players would shoot that poorly and Clowney would go out with an injury 3 minutes in, I would say Alabama would’ve lost by double digits. This team has so much heart and play for each other. This team is so different from last year and you can tell.

Alabama leaves Oregon with 2 wins that are bigger than any in the country right now. What a tournament.

Sick of this team

Im tired of watching a team make second grade mistakes.
We're not in the top 4 in the country but enough chaos may happen in front that we COULD get in. Stepping on our....s in the second half and making the same dozen brainless penalties/mistakes that we make EVERY GAME will insure that we have no argument to be 4th team because we let AUBS keep it close when we should have won 56-14 or something. 12 freaking men on the field after a TO.... .

Thoughts on Alabama’s Loss to UConn

This was a very very weird game. It started out being very physical and sloppy because of the physicality. Both teams were feeling each other out, and then UConn started making shots to pull ahead.

First the first 8 and a half minutes it was tied 10-10. From the 11:30 to the 7 minute mark in the first half Alabama was outscored 18-3. For the final 7 minutes of the half, Alabama outscored UConn 17-7.

Fast forward to the 2nd half, for the first 8 and a half minutes of the second half Alabama outscored UConn 22-17. However, from the 8:30 mark to 3 minutes left in the game Alabama was outscored 21-2. Then outscored UConn 13-9 for the final 3 minutes in garbage time.

For those 5 minute span in the first half and then in the second half, Alabama was outscored 39-5. The rest of the game? Alabama outscored UConn 62-43. I’d love to know the similarities of the lineups used in those two instances.

Basketball is a game of runs and those two runs won the game for UConn. Alabama didn’t help themselves turning the ball over 15 times in the first half. Give a lot of credit to Dan Hurley’s team because he knew what Nate Oats gameplan was and he beat him to it. Alabama only shot 16 threes because UConn was very physical with Alabama and forced them off their spots. Alabama matched the physicality for most of the game and it was impressive to see the freshman respond after the run in the first half, but just couldn’t pull away in the 2nd half.

Games like this happen, especially this early against a really good team. It doesn’t get any easier with Alabama facing UNC on Sunday in the 3rd place game. I really wanted Alabama to beat Mich St and then whatever happened after that happens. They didn’t go winless and fall on their face, but got a top tier win on their resume. Lets see if they can add an even bigger one on Sunday.

Where Alabama ranks in final regular season polls

Alabama moved up to No. 6 in both the AP and the USA Today/AFCA Coaches polls following its win against Auburn on Saturday.
