Baseball ⚾️ Game Thread Alabama vs. Auburn

we played hard but just not enough. Auburn is much more talented this year. We have to have Shack hitting all game and unfortunately he wasn’t early. JQ continues to play good and at the end just something happens with him.
-This team isn’t hitting enough 3’s all game
- Got to find a “tough” rebounder or 2 or 3 (including our guards) in the future
- we are a good team, but early tough schedule
Might have got to us even with big wins.
- Gary and Miles not playing positions they are comfortable with and not sure coach is very comfortable with Bediako right now.
Good fight to make it a game against one of the best teams in the nation.

Tough loss, we couldn’t hit a single shot when it was tied and bailed them out by sending them to the free throw line on a scramble for a loose ball.

You could see it on Ellis face at the end. Frustration from a lack of effort/execution at the end of games. This team has zero leadership and that’s not changing this year. We’ve got a ton of folks coming in next year. Maybe we can be good then

The team quit when Quinerly got his shot blocked. If it wasn’t for Keon Ellis finally running down and fouling Johnson…Auburn would have ran the clock out. Our effort to get back in it was great but the effort in the last minute or two on hustle plays and decision making was weak…that comes from the top. CNO has his work cut out of him if Alabama is going to finish the season with a .500 record in conference. Alabama has a long way to go in order to stay out of the 1st Day of the SEC Tournament.

It’s not always effort to blame lol. A decent shooting night and we win. Plain and simple

I don't mind the quick threes. It's what we do. But how do you throw up an air ball three with no one in your face?

Again, like I said earlier. I'm done watching. Way too frustrating for me. Turning my focus back to football recruiting.
I knew when I watched the Missouri game where this was headed. Season is losing any optimism. Not remotely a good shooting team that does not understand that a basketball game is played for 40 minutes.

Have to win this game at home. Sinking badly.

How many descent shooting nights have they had this season? 4? 5? I thought the commentator made a good point that in game coaching can only affect so much and at some point the players on the court have to figure it out on their own. It's mind boggling how you can look so inept on D and then a light goes on and you hold somebody scoreless for 4-6 minutes? Well it ain't rocket science you guard the high pick and roll the same regardless of opponent. I guess their basketball IQ lays dormant until their down 11.

Oh yea I’m not debating major issues I just don’t think it’s as simple as “try harder”

Good effort late but we were lucky tonight. The officials called a ton of touch fouls on the barn and it kept us in range until we finally got hot for a couple minutes. The same game down in their gym and we lose by 30+.

That is maybe the most talented tiger team they've ever had. They've had teams with a 3 or 4 that were maybe better than the best 3 or 4 they have now but it's actually impressive how many guys they can put out there and barely miss a beat. In fact they usually add something unique that changes how you have to approach defending them.

They are great. Jabari is unreal. I think they may be the best team in the country

That’s many peoples favorite thing to blame bc they don’t know what else to say. At this level, everybody is playing hard. I get tired of Oats talking about effort. At some point, it’s the coaches fault. But I just think that’s. Lame excuse many times.

There are legitimately times it’s an issue. It wasn’t the issue tonight. Our biggest issue is we can’t shoot the ball good which makes this system we run pretty sucky offensive basketball. Such a stagnant offense in the half court and if the drive and kick is only resulting in a make 18% of the time we are screwed. Yes there are other issues but I wish oats would develop a curve ball to his plan

I think our biggest issues are that our personnel just doesn’t fit the drive and kick right now. Gary and Bediako on the court at the same time just clogs things up bc we literally stand there and watch JQ. Set plays for Shack to get open 3’s and counters off of that wouldn’t hurt. And having the help moving around so JQ doesn’t have to deal with help as much. And we can’t guard the ball very well, so pressuring the ball 100% of the time kills us. Anxious to see if we make some adjustments.

Agree on all. I think we miss a fella playing for the spurs right now and a fella on crutches right now that we expected to be key pieces this year. When we first added Burnett in the portal I thought “sheesh this is an embarrassment of riches.” …. I get it now

Yah. Those two would be nice. It’s not easy to play this style without guards and shooters.

Right. Just took a glance(it’s late and I’m going off memory) but Shack is 39% which is strong. Then you got Miles 35%(not a ton of shots$, Ellis 34%(needs way more looks) Davison 31%, Gary 26%, Gurley 28%, Quinerly 25%(OUCH). So basically outside of shack, the guys taking the most shots have been abysmal from 3.

I’m just now watching the game. 1 minute left, 77 all, Ellis has an easy offensive rebound and instead of getting it he lets Auburn get it and immediately fouls him on the other end of the court and gives them a 2 point lead. That was a huge play.

We desperately need quality low post players who can score, block shots, and get rebounds. Our team full of guards looked like they were playing among Sequoyah trees. We have zero mid-range shooters and the wrong personnel taking 3s. Rojas's bulk is needed down low, but he may foul out in the first half. Bediako is too timid and Gurly is inconsistent.

We probably have a roster full of mid-range shooters. Oats won't let them take those shots. It's not a part of his "system". That's just one of many issues that I have with him.

Ding Ding Ding. Spot on.
