*** NCAAT vs NOTRE DAME THREAD***

Sorry, but IMO, Nate Oats is no where near the worst coach in America? Not even by a mile.
Did he find the answer to this teams failures and bring this team together. No he did not and that is a key factor in being a good coach. But this team has problems deeper than coaching. JMHO though.
Calling him the worse coach in America is a stretch, but he was spot on with his assessment of Oats. Oats is one if two things. He is either too arrogant to change because he feels his system is the only way to play, or he's not smart enough to coach anything other than this system he learned from Hurley.

I think this team, like most teams, takes on the personality of their head coach. He is an arrogant guy who doesn't think have to change anything he does. He rarely takes responsibility for his team not being prepared even though that's his job.

Those home grown Alabama kids led us to our best season in years last year. It’s becoming obvious that they were probably the main reason for our success .
It took those kids 4 years to do anything. Basketball in Alabama is just not very good. How many of the Barn players are from Alabama? Virtually none.

So what is the excuse for players not showing up for 2 shoot arounds in San Diego?
Would say maybe they should NOT have been voluntary.

Or Ellis was telling them to calm down and not get a tech for arguing the call.
You’ll never have a team that’s tight, together and wants to be together when the coach blasts the players publicly after every loss.
You have repeated this same crap about a hundred different times. Oats was correct on his effort opinions on most occasions. Let’s not criticize the youth of today. They may get their feelings hurt. LOL.

Our guys don't even follow their shots when they are throwing up bricks and air balls, so I guess what you are saying is that we don't have any good shooters. Good shooters follow their shots and it's something that is taught when one starts to play basketball.
It’s taught by people who don’t know basketball. That is an old thing and times have changed. You won’t see one good team with good shooters following their shot. Just go watch the game. That’s one of those things people might have done in the 70’s and people from the stands still yell it.

Players aren’t going to buy in to a coach that constantly rips them to the media. He can blame whoever he wants but he Carrie’s plenty of the blame.

Bc it’s true. You just want to blame every young kid when the lose with a broad brush that says, they don’t play hard. That’s what people say that have no clue what else to say. You can pick outs moments where you can question effort. But you aren’t going to find a high level college team where the players just don’t play hard.

We’ll know a lot by how next years team plays. If these same issues are constant next year with a 50% new roster then I’ll put it all on oats. We’ll see if it’s trend or if it was just this group of players/leaders.

He laid the culture there that would have the players believing that a “voluntary shoot around” was truly voluntary.

There isn't a player that plays for Saban who believes that voluntary workouts are just that.

He might have also lost his team, considering all he did was throw them under the bus in the media after every loss.

Yep, just posted the same thing. Oats might have lost this team.

Laughable. And wrong. Plenty of examples of poor effort on this team and season. Guess you missed the multiple times Oats took responsibility and said HE has to do a better job getting them prepared and play harder.
Doesn’t fit your tired and inaccurate assessment.

It isn’t an assessment. Just go watch the press conferences after losses and you’ll see that your opinion is wrong.

Not wrong when I hear Oats say “he” has to do a better job. Think you ignore that fact. Hearing what you want to hear.
By the way/ not an opinion. It is a fact. Stop cradling and kissing these kids rear ends. There were attitude and chemistry issues on this team. Player bear some damn responsibility.

Nobody is saying they don’t bear any responsibility. But they don’t bear any until the head coach does. He rarely blamed himself for anything but I can guarantee when he did, he also blamed the kids. He isn’t missing an opportunity to pass blame. He needs to spend some time around Saban and learn how to navigate this things with developing a culture and holding kids responsible. And he will learn it starts with him. You take the blame more times than not and eventually the kids realize you have their back regardless and they’ll start going further for you.
