Teams in the SEC will not allow you to be a one-trick pony and win consistently. He needs to develop his coaching style and develop his players because I didn't see any growth from them individually or as a team.

Theres literally no talent on the floor outside of JQ, Ellis, and the occasional bediako. You want a guy on the hot seat bringing in his best recruiting class this year, and will have won the reg season, sec tourney, a sweet 16 and back to back tournament appearances? hilarious. EMOTIONALI'm not saying he should or will be fired after next season but he cannot field another team next season with this much talent only to watch them play so poorly for 2 months straight. If the team plays like this next season then he should be on the hot seat going into the '23-'24 season. Sorry, these guys make way too much to field a team that poorly prepared and coached.
Yes I watched. His last 3 was a handoff, which he made more than one off of. The guard ran into the screen, the big stayed back and he shot a wide open 3. And that happened more than once.Did you not watch the game? He could have been getting touched by their team priest while chucking up a 3 and still would have made every shot. Didnt matter when he was smothered. Sometimes players just have those games.
Maybe if he had a coach who knew how to coach anything other than his “system” of throwing up a shit ton of 3s, he might have faired better.not defending oats at all, but can’t wait for you candy ass excuse about JD. Good riddance to him. Sorry as all get out.
Are you trying to kid the board or yourself with this post? Truly amazing? Best player injured and on the bench?Oats is not to blame 1 bit. Some players are just stupid. You can't fix stupid. I honestly feel bad for him. But what he has accomplished this year with our best player all summer on the bench not playing 1 play this year due to injury is truly amazing. Not another coach in the country could take this team up to the 4th ranked team in the country.
you must be trying to kid the board or yourself. Yeah, he coached them to 4th in the country then coached them down to a tie for 7th in SEC topped off by embarrassing first round loss to freaking Notre Dame. Oh, he did recruit these stupid players as you refer and yes you can fix stupid. You think Barnes, musselman or Pearl hasn’t fixed stupid on their teams? BBet you thought Marone was a great OL coach in FB. I’ve read a lot of irrational comments on this board over the years and made my share as well, but none I can remember tops your post defending Oats.Oats is not to blame 1 bit. BE did not recruit? Don't know what that means. Next years team will be great. highest recruiting class for us in history. Add burnett. Let bediako get stronger. He developed herb and jp like crazy over last 2 years. It was awesome.Does not matter. This product sucks from here to the moon. Oats won last year with a senior laden team be did not recruit. Other teams have basketball players/ not sure what the hell we have in Tuscaloosa.
.
This team on paper was much more talented than Notre Dame and Rutgers, who would've have beaten us too.Theres literally no talent on the floor outside of JQ, Ellis, and the occasional bediako. And Oats made no defensive changes on Ryan ever … just dared him to shoot and he shot our eyeballs outWhat are you talking about? Think everyone on here agrees we had to have an impressive combination of bad play and bad coaching to achieve this kind of collapse. I do know that Bray didn't coach 29 points out of Ryan today. Pretty sure he just delivered, and we don't do that anymore.
whoa! Pearl defintely didnt fix stupid last year? He just went out and got the current #1 pick in the nba draft. Musselman? Where were they last year? Barnes? Yeah he didnt fix stupid last year? This is just the emotional response by southern basketball "experts" who don't grow up learning basketball. They don't know who else to blame. Are you trying to kid the board or yourself with this post? Truly amazing? Best player injured and on the bench?

Not true. I heard him yell, "cover the shooters" a couple of times (insert eye roll here)And Oats made no defensive changes on Ryan ever … just dated him to shoot and he shot our eyeballs out
Paper hero!! This team had no individual talent outside JQ, ellis, and sparks from bediako. 0. Any other coach and its a losing record. all day every day. sThis team on paper was much more talented than Notre Dame and Rutgers, who wouldn't have beaten us too.

You defending JD is really getting old.Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Making shots in a stupid shooting drill is a lot different than playing in games.
JD was a 5 star, coach him and the other players up better. Come up with a better offense than this shit where they all stand around looking to throw up 3s. Coach them to their strengths, not some analysis bullshit.
It funny how it was on the previous coach for not developing players but it’s not Oats fault that his players hasn’t gotten better. Shit if it wasn’t for the previous coach players, last year would have ended up in the NIT…
Go study the best offense and defense teams that will let you visit and stay away from players out of 1-4A players (Herb bring the exception). Go to the portal.Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Making shots in a stupid shooting drill is a lot different than playing in games.

10000000%. I wouldn't recruit a single star from the state of alabama due to hs basketball coaching there.Yep, keep blaming the coach. Par for the course with you. Good riddance JD. Most overrated player I’ve ever witnessed in my life.
I literally asked that during todays game. If he couldn’t guard 20 better than Rojas then he should have been gone a long time ago.On a side note....how is it possible that Keon Ambrose-Hylton isn't a better option than a hobbled Rojas?
As a prep he was a consensus 4 star big with emerging guard skills....what the heck happened to his development?
Keon Ambrose pours in 25
Do u even remember Herb’s play his freshman year?Go study the best offense and defense teams that will let you visit and stay away from players out of 1-4A players (Herb bring the exception). Go to the portal.
I mean they just won the sec tournament, reg season, sweet 16, back to back tournament appearances....highest recruiting class coming in team history. I'd argue they've almost never been in a better spot. This team’s slide very disheartening in every respect. Earlier in season I thought Oats was bootstrapping this program up despite lack of any material investment by UA in 30 years. Just wishful thinking by this Bama fan. I hope Oats makes it happen somehow, but this team looked very poorly coached, but I also believe the talent is way over rated. Tide basketball was excellent between about 1970 and 1992, though second to Kentucky, but still a good looking team. So, the Tide has succeeded for a long stretch in the past, and I was there for it. But that makes every year since hard to watch and this team played like 5th graders. On to spring practice.
This is how delusional you are. “Any other coach” and it’s a losing record. You literally think Oats is the best coach in the world and the best there has ever been. That is your exact mindset.Paper hero!! This team had no individual talent outside JQ, ellis, and sparks from bediako. 0. Any other coach and its a losing record. all day every day. s
Herb literally was terrible on offense his freshman year. I totally agree on the coaching thing. But herb truly was terrible. Just good on d that yearDo u even remember Herb’s play his freshman year?
I’m not a JD fan but Herb was weak as water his freshman year.
Herb had a better high school coaching though.
Hamm...what I am trying to say is I don't all of a sudden expect Bama to be a 2 seed and make the Sweet 16 each year. Way too hard in college basketball to be super consistent from year to year, especially for a program like Bama. But you have to agree this team was not well coached no matter the level of talent and lost a lot of games it should have easily won. I still cannot believe we gave UGA its only SEC win of the season and had Vandy down by 15 pts in the second half and ended up losing.whoa! Pearl defintely didnt fix stupid last year? I don't think hes the best in the world. I just don't think theres anyone else you should want for alabama. Hes bringing in the best hs class in team history. Back to back tourneys, just won both tourney and reg season. Scoring has been better for back to back years. And thats with very limited and injured talent. This is how delusional you are. “Any other coach” and it’s a losing record. You literally think Oats is the best coach in the world and the best there has ever been. That is your exact mindset.
All I know is hes bringing in the best recruiting class in history and has had back to back tournament appearances as high seeds, taking one to the sweet 16. Also bringing in 2 of the biggest wins in team history during the regular season in over a decade. I think the trajectory is insaneHamm...what I am trying to say is I don't all of a sudden expect Bama to be a 2 seed and make the Sweet 16 each year. I mean when players get wide open layup looks its not the coach getting there but its the coach clacking them off the rim.Oats didn't throw up bricks, dribble the ball of of his foot, get it stolen, let guards blow by them, not follow their shots, etc. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
You said no other coach has a winning record with this team. That’s your mindset, he’s the best.I don't think hes the best in the world. I agree with this. In fact, I'm hoping the players I saw crying after the game were upset about the effort they gave all year. But Oats has to address this and cannot let it happen again next season, especially with what I think will be a completely overhauled roster.Oats didn't throw up bricks, dribble the ball of of his foot, get it stolen, let guards blow by them, not follow their shots, etc. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
Last year was a period of time? the only difference was he develop high level iqs over years with that team. I don't want to make adjustments per the team. That does them absolutely no favors in his system next year when we have the highest recruiting class in team history that will fit his system as well as burnett and a developed bediako. You can make small adjustments, BUT DO NOT OVERHAUL YOUR SYSTEM. I'm glad he didnt. You said no other coach has a winning record with this team. That’s your mindset, he’s the best.
You can go back and look. I’d bet money I was the very first person on this board to say lock Oats up. I believe he can win. But what I don’t like, and won’t work over a period of time is that he will not adjust. He’s only going to play offense one certain way and defense one certain way. This team could not play his style consistently. All I’m asking is to try to make adjustments to fit what they can do.
Yep. Surprised ellis didnt. Seemed to bring effort tonight as well.Oats said JQ was the only player that showed up for voluntary shoot around last night… say what you want about having VOLUNTARY shoot around but…. I think it pretty much triple confirms all of my thoughts about the mentality of this team
Yep, and that's why I keep saying the '22-'23 team cannot play like it did this past season. All I know is hes bringing in the best recruiting class in history
Is this true?Oats said JQ was the only player that showed up for voluntary shoot around last night
Nobody is asking him to overhaul his system. Adjustments with this team doesn’t mean anything for next years team. You’re just making excuses for him. You literally work for the guy don’t you?Last year was a period of time? the only difference was he develop high level iqs over years with that team. I don't want to make adjustments per the team. JD is ready for the NBA.Good riddance JD. Most overrated player I’ve ever witnessed in my life.
Well now GoHamm, I’ve heard us southerners labeled in FB but now basketball? I didn’t know Geography defined knowledge in sports or anything else in life. Surely, you are not putting Oats at same level of success as Barnes or Pearl (who I dislike immensely and not just because he’s an Aubie). And you should be careful not to call out posters knowledge of the game without reading their resumes. I’ll put my 43-year basketball career and experience at all levels except NBA against your basketball resume and feel confident I’ve earned the right to both positive and negatively evaluate coaches. I never coached with emotion nor are my posts made with emotion. I can’t fix stupid posts so will just refer you to the great Forrest Gump with your original post and rebuttal. “Stupid is as stupid does”.whoa! Pearl defintely didnt fix stupid last year? He just went out and got the current #1 pick in the nba draft. Musselman? Where were they last year? Barnes? Yeah he didnt fix stupid last year?
