Do recruiting rankings even matter anymore?

Serious question. Do recruiting rankings even matter anymore. In two years 25+% or each recruiting class will be gone to another school, and it will probably be the five stars that are gone. A young man is told how great he is, when coming out of High School, and now he has to sit on the pines(stand on the sideline) for two years, while he waits for a five star that is as talented, to graduate, before he gets his playing time.

I really think the day is fast approaching that the football coaches are going to have to take lessons from Baseball coaches, on how to recruit a top prospect that will not be drafted in the first five rounds of the MLB draft, coming out of high school. Coaches are going to have to become psychologist, when recruiting players, in order to determine, which recruits will be willing to endure the process, with the goal of getting to the league and lasting in the league, or the coach will soon be looking for a new job.

Football Recruiting Tide Illustrated ESD Primer: Everything Alabama fans need to know

With letters of intent set to be signed in about 12 hours, we prep you for what could be a wild signing day.

Alabama built up to this with commitments from Keon Keeley last week and now Kaydn Proctor today. It seems that the Tide may have even more in store for us.

Here is a breakdown of times recruits plan to sign (it’s subject to change), along with where some recruits stand the night before the Early Signing Period.

Here we go…

Texas A&M

It is amazing what can happen in a year:

Texas A&M had the top-ranked 2022 class with a mind-blowing six five-stars and 20 four-stars. A year later, the Aggies are slotted at No. 18 with 13 commits. There are only four four-stars from the state of Texas that are uncommitted.

Unless coach Jimbo Fisher has some flips in the works, this class may struggle to get into the top 15. The Aggies may have to hit the transfer portal to recoup what they did not sign and to replace what was lost off their squad to that same portal.

I knew last year when A&M signed the #1 recruiting class, that something was not quite right in College Station.

Recruiting Perspective

I really don't get all the drama around signing Mitchell...he is a very good player and prospect, and certainly the staff wants him to be a apart of this class...I would like to point out that we have a player currently on the roster, Earl Little Jr., who is just as good IMO, and certainly more ready to contribute having been in the program for a year already...with Downs coming on board, I think we'll be fine next year at safety with these guys along with the others in the program like Story, Moore etc...who knows, maybe Hellams chooses to return in order to improve his draft stock...for the record, our success next year will come down to the effectiveness of the guy under center...

Football Recruiting Final Predictions heading into signing day

So, we are less than 12 hours away from the Early Signing Period kicking off.

We will have updates tomorrow as recruits send in their letter of intent.

That said, here are some of the remaining targets on the board for Alabama and ultimately where we feel they will decide to go.

Checking with sources late tonight and things seem to be in favor of LSU late. It seems that Ricks has always felt like a priority for the Tigers even when he was a 2024 recruit.

Alabama certainly made things interesting but it just seems like it may not be enough to overcome LSU even with their want to add another cover-corner.

Prediction: LSU

Russaw has been fairly quiet on the recruiting front, while behind closed doors he’s been entertaining Auburn, Georgia, Florida outside of Alabama.

Russaw is seen as a pass-rusher but at Alabama there is a strong chance he will man the linebacker position for the Tide.

Although, NIL has most certainly been offered, the opportunity to play for Bama may be too much for other schools to overcome.

Perkins will probably turn out being a special player on the next level. That said, as things stand tonight, I wouldn’t hold out hope for Perkins.

He’s been pretty pro Ole Miss for a few weeks now and frankly it doesn’t seem like he’s changing his mind. According to those close to him NIL played a role and Ole Miss made sure he was major piece to their puzzle this class.

Prediction: Ole Miss

Smith is set to announce at 1 pm (CST) tomorrow and all eyes will be on the 6’4, 310 pound prospect.

Smith has given the impression that Alabama could be home throughout the process but the same schools that entertained Russaw, have been entertaining him.

If things go as planned and the two (Smith and Russaw) remain a package then it should be the Tide to help finish out the class. However, keep an eye on Auburn as they try to make a signing day splash.

Prediction: Alabama

Hall has been fairly quiet interview wise after taking his visits, Instagram is another story. Regardless, Hall at one point seemed like someone who could be an addition to the class for the Tide, however things changed. Alabama added Keon Keeley, along with 5 other DL prospects.

With Alabama still in it for James Smith as well, Hall may feel more welcome elsewhere and see the field faster. If playing time and communication, ultimately end up as the decision makers then it may not bode well for Alabama.

As things stand right now, I’d lean to Georgia or even LSU.

Prediction: Georgia

Brown has seen an uptick in his recruitment in recent weeks due to his skillset and team’s need for a corner.

Once Brown’s brother entered the transfer portal things got interesting, making people question if it was now a package deal. Brown mentioned both he and his brother (Davonte Brown - UCF Transfer) playing together but didn’t say it had to happen. Davonte just transferred to Miami yesterday, so that makes things even more interesting.

As things stand tonight, it’s hard to pick against the in-state School but we will due to Alabama’s want for another corner.

Mitchell has been an interesting prospect the last months flirting with Texas A&M leading up to signing day including a few visits secretly.

A big deal for Mitchell is relationship and ultimately how he will be used. Mitchell provides a connection to a strong Thompson program with players like Anquon Fegans coming up.

That said, NIL will play a role here and quietly behind the scenes according to sources Auburn came out of nowhere to make a last minute push. Therefore, it’s expected that Mitchell will flip tomorrow and sign with Auburn.

I will be on hand before heading to the Russaw/Smith announcement where we will find out first hand.

Prediction: Auburn

Hasz made things interesting when he received an in-home from Alabama confirming that there was still contact between he and the staff.

However, he debunked any rumors by announcing tonight he will stick with Arkansas. Still time left but as of now, Hasz has given no reason to consider otherwise.

Prediction: Arkansas

Now CJ Dippre isn’t set to announce and spoke about wanting to take other visits but with an apparent want to add to the TE in room in some capacity, it would seem that if Alabama misses of Hasz they will turn up the heat on Dippre.

Dippre has college experience giving him an edge to compete immediately.

Right now, the Tide have positioned themselves well for Dippre and it would seem they can land him. Just need to see things play out.

If we were predicting today it would be the Tide but there is more time left for Dippre to decide.

Merry Christmas To All

I may be out of pocket a lot this week, so I wanted to go ahead and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. May all of your wishes for the current year come true. As for me, the Lord has given me everything I could desire. I have a good home, a great wife, two wonderful children. Last year he gave me a second Grandson, with a third Grandson on the way, so what else besides a granddaughter couid one Grandpa want?

May the Lord grant each of you the blessings that he has given me.
