Thoughts After Alabama’s Loss to Gonzaga

What an incredibly, fun and exciting game that was. Unfortunately, Alabama’s curse in Birmingham continues as they were unable to defeat Gonzaga inside a raucous Legacy Arena.

Brandon Miller (36) is arguably the best scorer that has ever come through Alabama. He was incredible today, but unfortunately he and Jaden Bradley (18) were the only ones that showed up.

This will be the best offense that Alabama will play all season and losing Nimari really showed today. Ball rotations and defending the pick n roll wasn’t ideal, but Mark Few is an elite coach for a reason. They exploited weakness and Alabama did well adjusting, but Gonzaga just couldn’t miss. That happens in basketball.

Turnovers were another problem today and that’s what halted Alabama’s 20-11 run to start the game. It looked like one of those games where they couldn’t miss, but they went cold for a stretch that gave Gonzaga the momentum they kept.

Alabama had a great non conference stretch. They finished the tough stretch at 9-2, and will likely enter SEC play at 10-2. It has been a while since that has happened and will position Alabama well for a high seed.

Today is disappointing, but basketball can be that way sometimes. Gonzaga is still a really really good team that has played a very tough schedule too. They’ll end up a top 10 team at the end of the year. I hope Drew Timme graduates and Alabama never plays in Birmingham again.

Alabama basketball unable to capitalize on career day from Brandon Miller

Brandon Miller scored a season-high 36 points against Gonzaga, the most by an Alabama player since Kira Lewis Jr. scored 37 during a 105-102 overtime win at Georgia during Nate Oats’ first season in charge of the Crimson Tide in 2020.

Moved to Mugshots at 10:30/Meet at Caseys Sports Bar at 11:00 Saturday Before the Game.

What would you think about those that can, meet at Caseys Sports Bar at 11:00 Saturday, for a few minutes before the game. They open at 11:00. I'm coming from Montgomery and have to pick up my son first, but I am all for meeting posters and knocking down a beer. If Milso would come, I would even pay for his Jim Beam. (limit 3). Milso likes his Jim Beam.

Post if you are game.

I finally am getting to go to the Gonzaga game with my son. My wife has graciously agreed to babysit the Grandson,

I see the game is a sale out. Do we have a group that wants to meet before the game?

Throwbacks

In my era, the best compliment you could receive was to be called a throwback...a reference by older fans and ex players to a time where it was all about the team, never the individual...it suggested you played with a level of discipline and intensity, and left everything you had out on the field or the court when the whistle blew...

Well, guys, we have a bunch of throwbacks on our team this year, led by Bryce and Will...here we have 2 players projected to go in the top 5 spots of the draft who have decided to play in the Sugar Bowl in order to finish what they started when the season began...despite what was certain resistance from agents, scouts, family and friends, these guys want to go to war with their brothers one more time...they certainly are upset at not reaching the team goals set for themselves at the beginning of the year, and are looking to put it on the line one more time for the University, their team mates, staff and fans...both of these guys have heard the noise about our year, and seem hell bent on correcting the record...

In an era of incredible selfishness in all areas of life, Bryce and Will are showing why they are tremendous leaders and will be successful wherever their journey takes them...with everything to lose, and really nothing to gain, these guys (along with the others not opting out) are renewing my faith in what may be possible in the sport that has been disrupted by the all the garbage around the portal, NIL and the me generation...Alabama has produced a ton of legends and heroes over time, but none greater than our 2 outstanding All American captains...

Thank you Wiil, Bryce, and all the rest of the players for showing us that in the end, it's about more than wins and losses, it's about character, of which they carry in large quantities...I've never been prouder to be a Bama fan in my lifetime than at this moment...Roll Tide boys!

Football Recruiting Quick update on four-star CB target Damari Brown

Login to view embedded media American Heritage played in the state title game last night, and shortly after the clock hit zero, Brown did an interview with our Miami site to give the latest (briefly) with less than a week to go.

Here are some quick notes-

-Brown mentioned that Miami is hitting him up everyday, basically non-stop right now. Alabama is in-touch 2-4 times a week. Said he likes the space, and knows he needs it.

- Brown recently had an in-home visit with Nick Saban, a visit where Saban re-iterated the open spot they have in the class for a corner with his size and length. Saban wants someone that can take away the other teams’ receivers, and get the CB room back to how it has been. Brown knows Alabama doesn’t have a true corner in the class, and that he could slide right into that spot.

- Biggest factor for Brown is going to be finding the place he can make the biggest impact the quickest. Also mentioned winning as a priority.

Football Recruiting Recruiting Rundown 12/18: More offers go out; Bama gets big news

Alabama received big news last week in the form of Keon Keeley while continuing to offer players for the future. Here is a quick snapshot of who was offered last week.

Football Recruiting Alabama Commits/Targets - Weekend Visits

This weekend, we will see the Tide host several of their most talented prospects and a major prospect committed elsewhere.

Things for Alabama get more interesting by the day.

Five-Star Kadyn Proctor will be in attendance this weekend in what could help finalize one of the best classes we we seen in recent years. Proctor would be a huge addition, someone that’d have the opportunity to start immediately.

Also, in attendance Caleb Downs who’s settled the rumors about his outside interest by getting back on campus to help recruit Proctor. Downs was phenomenal this year in route to a state title.

Tony Mitchell has been committed to Alabama for some time now and has held a relationship with the staff since his junior high years. This weekend will determine the outcome of his recruitment as visits college station.

Mitchell has maintained contact with the staff throughout the season, paired with NIL & his relationships in the 2022 class A&M is one to watch late.

Will know more coming out of his visit.

Tyler Scott was a late offer out of Georgia who seemed like he could be a healthy addition to the secondary. Down to four, Scott will visit Texas this weekend.

Desmond Ricks has made things interesting the last few more with reclassifications, serious pursuit from multiple schools & being hush with his recruitment.

A visit this weekend to LSU will be huge to help determine where things with days remaining before his commitment.

James Smith and Qua Russaw. At this point they should be considered a package deal, so why not treat them as such. The pair will visit, Auburn as they connect with new head coach High Freeze.

It seems like things all come down to this week for the two with heavy momentum in favor of the Tide leaving their visit last week in Tuscaloosa.

Whoever is able to land these two is deserving. They will get ferocious defense prospects who play well together helping the chemistry of the entire unit.

Damari Brown has been a quiet kept secret in Florida this year allowing him to focus on his team as they prepare for the state championship tonight.

Brown visits Miami this weekend with his brother this weekend. From reports the pair hope to play together on the next level.

Saban did visit Damari earlier this week but will the opportunity to compete at Alabama outweigh and opportunity to play with his brother. It’s hard to say.

Turnovers

I know Oats harps on turnovers and I’ve read on here about us having some many at like 14. But I don’t understand those expectations. I expect 4-5 just because of the way we run our halfcourt offense standing around watching the ball. I expect at least 2-3 just trying to get the ball inbounds. And then you have to have at least 4-5 just trying to play at a break neck pace. That’s going to create turnovers at times and it adds possessions and the more you possess the ball, the more you turn it over. I really think anything about 15 and under is decent these days, especially with how we play.
