Football 🏈 Alabama checks in at No. 11 in the AP Poll

Crimson Tide jumps two spots after the Iron Bowl win. Latest CFP rankings will drop Tuesday night.

Hoops 🏀 Rapid Reaction: Alabama Falls to Oregon in PE Final

Alabama made it to the championship game after defeating Houston in OT and Rutgers, but succumbed to a really good Oregon team in nip and tuck battle.

Alabama played a really poor game to me with a lot of turnovers and poor outside shooting, but found themselves tied with a chance to get a stop and go down and win. However a weak side putback dunk with 4 seconds left for the Ducks proved to be the game winner.

Mark Sears is struggling right now to say the least, but if you know Mark, he will figure it out. He works to hard to not figure it out. Losing Wrightsell for what seems like the season will be a big blow to this team offensively. That’s losing a 40+% shooter on a team that needs his presence. Maybe it’s not as bad as it looks.

Looking ahead, Alabama has a road game at UNC and a home game vs Creighton left in their gauntlet. If you told me they’d finish 7-3 in those 10 games, I would’ve taken it. I honestly think they beat North Carolina, in a game that Youngblood could be returning.

Football 🏈 Tide Pod: Where do Alabama's CFP hopes lie after Iron Bowl win

Tony and I recapped the Iron Bowl, talked about the message from Alabama to the CFP committee and what has to happen for the Tide to get in.

Football 🏈 Tony's takes: Alabama failed its playoff debate following Iron Bowl win

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama won the game but lost the debate Saturday night.

The Crimson Tide took care of business in the Iron Bowl and got some of the results it needed to keep its playoff hopes alive on Saturday. However, you couldn’t tell by the Tide’s nonchalant attitude in the media room following its 28-14 win over Auburn.

Hey Germie Bernard, why do you think Alabama should be in the playoff?

“That’s not really my focus right now,” Bernard said when asked to give his pitch after the win. “My focus is on tonight. We won the game so I just want to enjoy this win with my teammates. And then whatever comes after that, comes after that.”

The receiver was later asked if he felt Alabama was a playoff team, to which he responded “100 percent.” However, when questioned why he looked around, smiled, and responded, “Next question, please.”

Fair enough, campaigning’s not for everyone.

How about you Bray Hubbard? Any thoughts on the playoff?

“I mean, not much,” Hubbard replied. “Just taking it day by day. I mean, yeah, we think we’re a playoff team, but we’re just gonna take these next 24 hours, clean this game up and see what’s ahead of us and take this thing day-by-day.”

When asked why Alabama should make the playoff, Hubbard incorrectly brought up that the Tide won five of its last six games. Alabama has actually won four of its last six, but who's counting? Well... maybe the committee.

While Hubbard failed to deliver a convincing argument, we’ll give the sophomore safety the benefit of the doubt. Saturday was just his fifth start of the season, and media opportunities have been scarce.

How about someone who is constantly in front of the camera?

Jalen Milroe, what would you say to the College Football Playoff committee?

“I would just say we are very thankful for the opportunity each and every Saturday,” Milroe responded after giving a slight shrug. “All we want to do is put on display all the hard work we put in during the week and just know that we have a resilient group that’s part of that locker room. Despite if we’re in or out, I’m just proud of the guys that’s in the locker room. I’m proud of their fight. Because it’s easy to dwell, it’s easy to give up, but we don’t have that in that locker room.”

Woof. Good luck clipping that for a campaign video, Crimson Tide Productions.

Even Kalen DeBoer’s pitch fell a bit flat. Had Nick Saban been in the situation, he’d have provided a 10-bullet PowerPoint presentation complete with a catchy slogan, while hammering the key talking points such as strength of schedule, quality wins and the team’s ceiling moving forward.

DeBoer kind of did that but ended up fumbling through a statement where he admitted “I don’t know the exact stats" before indeed giving the wrong stats.

“When you talk about the schedule and what it is week to week, it’s just a grind,” DeBoer said. “Having to come back every week, really the only conference that has to do that is ours. That’s what I’d say. We’ve won five of our last six. Playing physical football. I think we’ve continued to excel in that area. What the game’s all about. I think those are two pretty big deals. Beat some high-quality teams. Teams that are still out there I believe playing some good ball themselves. And just winning five of the last six in the back half of the season.”

OK, that’s not too terrible, but it certainly could have been better. Just look at Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, who included a call to action while displaying full command of his resume following the Hurricane’s loss to Syracuse.

"We have to re-emphasize reality,” Cristobal told reporters. “This team has won 10 football games against some really good opponents. This last game, it came all the way down to the wire. Our two losses are by one possession left in a touchdown. That makes us one of the better teams in the country."

While Milroe was beep-bop-booping through his typical robotic responses to questions, Miami quarterback Cam Ward hit the committee with an actual human moment.

“If they knew what was up, they’d put us in the playoffs,” Ward said via the Miami Herald. “We are that team. It’s not in our hands anymore, but go look at the stats. We are that team. So you know, every winner’s gotta lose someday.”

Ultimately, talk will only get a team so far. The committee will compare Alabama’s resume against Miami’s next week. Fortunately for the Tide, the hard facts do a better job of making its playoff case than DeBoer or any of the Tide’s players.

— Alabama has three ranked wins, while Miami has yet to play a ranked team.

— The Tide has the No. 14 ranked schedule compared to Miami at No. 59.

— Alabama has been hard done by a few questionable calls, while Miami benefited from a controversial decision earlier this year.

While Alabama might have lost the initial debate Saturday night, there’s still plenty of time left to campaign. The latest rankings won’t even come out until Tuesday evening. From there, DeBoer has all week to work on making his case. And we know from his 7,000 media appearances this summer he’s not shy in front of a camera or behind a microphone.

Alabama proved Saturday that it can walk the walk. With a playoff spot on the line, it might be time for DeBoer and company to start talking the talk as well.

Drink of the week — Filibuster

In the spirit of Alabama needing to start bumping its gums, this week’s drink of the week is the Fillibuster. The rye-based cocktail was created by San Francisco bartender Erik Adkins is a spicier take on the whiskey sour. After all, Alabama going to need a bit more heat in its upcoming debates this week.

For this drink, you’ll need 2 ounces of rye whiskey, ¾ ounce of lemon juice, ¾ ounce of maple syrup, a small egg white and Angostura bitters.

Add all the ingredients except the bitters into a cocktail shaker and give a dry shake. Then add ice and shake again. From there, strain the ingredients into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass and garnish by dripping the bitters onto your foamy top.

Cheers!

Watching the Iron Bowl...

Things you don't get to see while at the game. Did Booger and Dan really just say at half that Auburn was dominating the game? Drunk, high, or just not watching? Also interesting penalties against us while trying not to get jumped on the Auburn sideline. The officials have been bad all year but they definitely have not done us any favors. We playoff bound though bitches stop bending the knee saying no

Football 🏈 Kalen DeBoer ties Alabama record for wins by a first-year coach

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It’s been a rollercoaster ride, but Kalen DeBoer has written himself in the record books during his debut season at Alabama. Saturday’s 28-14 win over Auburn, moves No. 13 Alabama to 9-3 on the season. It also helped DeBoer tie the program’s record for most wins by a head coach in their first season.

Frank Thomas is the only other Alabama head coach to record nine wins in his first season, posting a 9-1 record in 1931. DeBoer is already just the fourth Alabama coach to reach eight or more wins in his first year, joining Thomas as well as Ray Perkins (8-4, 1983) and Red Drew (8-3, 1947). Nick Saban went 7-6 during his debut season in 2007.

“Any wins I get are always about the team and everything we do," DeBoer said when asked about the accomplishment following Alabama's win over Auburn. "So, there’s more that I wish we would’ve had, that’s the way I look at it."

As DeBoer pointed out, his first season at Alabama has had its ups and downs. The Tide's current resume includes ranked with over No. 7 Georgia, No. 15 South Carolina and No. 21 Missouri. DeBoer also became just the sixth Alabama head coach to the Iron Bowl in his first season in charge of the Tide.

On the other hand, Alabama lost at rival Tennessee and has ugly losses at Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. Those defeats have put the Tide's playoff chances in question.

"I think the hard times bring you closer and you can see the response," DeBoer said. "I wish everyone could be in that locker room right now, and it’s not this crazy party going on downstairs its a lot of just love and care for each other and smiles and that’s what its all about, coming together each and every week — the ups and downs. So, yeah, it’s been a great ride in a lot of ways. Obviously there’s times when you’d love to have a few things go a little bit better.”

Regardless of the results, DeBoer has earned the respect of his current players.

"I love Coach DeBoer," quarterback Jalen Milroe said. "I love his commitment, his resiliency, him as a leader, the shoes that he filled with the position he's in. Always working his tale off to be the best coach he can be for our football team.

"I respect him a lot for always trying to get the best out of me, pushing me each and every day to be the best quarterback in the nation that I can be for this football team. Just seeing his fight throughout the year, it's not easy being a head coach in the SEC. But he's just shown tremendous leadership and shown his pride in coaching and how much he cares about us. I'm going to be quite honest, man. He's one of the best coaches that I've been around."

DeBoer will have an opportunity to move into sole possession of the record. Though Alabama is still a long shot to reach the College Football Playoff, DeBoer will have the chance to stack more wins if Alabama makes it or he could earn another victory in the Tide's bowl game if it missed the CFP.

Alabama will find out its postseason fate when the College Football Playoff and bowl schedule are announced on Dec. 8.

Flag planting

couldnt believe talking heads postgame pretty much defended teams doing it with "you dont want a team doing that, then beat them." classless. Flag planting is just rude, unsportsmanlike "rubbing it in their face." Be classy when you win. Sick that we are at a point it is even debatable as okay and the losing team's fault.

Happened all over gamea yesterday. We need some game suspensions and fines for coaches and players who.do it.

Im drunk or i wouldn't be posting this,..

I've got WAY more problems in life right now than who wins a football game. Having said that, do I think KD is the answer and will lead us to future national titles? I have no idea. Did this season play out the way I wanted? No. But you know what? For 1 night with my daughter and grandkids here, we watched the tide roll 1 more time! Against our arch rival no less. I don't have to hear any aubs flapping their gums for the next year. Do I have concerns about our team,....yep! A lot of them. But,...im proud of them tonight. Proud of KD. He had the balls to come in and replace the greatest to ever do it. I'm proud of our coaching staff.....their not perfect but they got it done tonight. And I'm proud of our players,....even Milroe with his 4 turnovers...lol. They got it done tonight! Like I said, I'm about 13 deep in a 12 pack, and I'll probably regret this post tomorrow. But right now, I'm proud! Proud of everyone associated with the team. RTR!

2025 Defense

Looking ahead to next year’s defense, if we can break off enough NIL money to keep Deontae, Jihaad, LT Overton, and Domani (none currently mocked in the 1st round) from going pro then our defense will finally have the talent at all 3 levels we haven’t seen in a while. That is obviously easier said than done to keep the junior studs from going pro, or the young guys from seeking more money in the portal. It’ll really show what DeBoer is made of since the whole team essentially has to be re-recruited every year, but the defense could be the most talented in the nation if he can pull it off:

DL: LT Overton, Tim Keenan, Damon Payne/James Smith
LB: Deontae Lawson, Jihaad Campbell, Qua Russaw/Jeremiah Alexander
CB: Domani Jackson, Zabien Brown, DeVonta Smith/Jaylen Mbakwe, Deshawn Jones
S: Keon Sabb, Bray Hubbard, King Mack

Would be our most talented secondary in years, plus we’re adding Dijon Lee who could be the next in our long line of 1st round DBs
