TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama players worked outside Monday as they participated in their first practice in preparation for Saturday’s game against Tennessee. Players were dressed in shorts and shells and worked under cloudy, 72-degree weather. Here are some notes from the workout.

— Chris Owens (knee) was participating in drills with the rest of the offensive linemen. The redshirt junior was second in line at center behind Landon Dickerson, who started last week’s game. Darrian Dalcourt was third in line, while Emil Ekiyor Jr. was fourth.

Nick Saban commented on Dickerson and Brown earlier in the day.

“(Dickerson) did a nice job in the game. He’d played (center) before. He’s practiced it a lot before. Deonte is obviously, too, to be a very powerful guy playing guard, which is what you want inside with the players that you have. So, the combination of those guys worked out very well in this game.

“Hopefully, Chris will be able to do some things this week, and we’ll have some kind of decision to make toward the end of the week as to how we go forward at that position.”

— Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis were both limited during the viewing period. That’s been a common occurrence during Monday practices so far this season.

— Markail Benton (hamstring) participated in drills with the inside linebackers but took some reps off. Earlier in the day, Nick Saban said he is trying to create more of a role for the redshirt sophomore moving forward.

“Markail’s been injured and he was actually competing and we were going to try and create a role for him, and he pulled a hamstring and missed a couple of weeks. So it was really to try and get him an opportunity, as well as maybe take some burden off the other guys in terms of what’s on their plate. So if he continues to do well it would be helpful to our team that we have four guys on our defense who can play winning football. He’s certainly a guy who has the capability to do that.”

— Offensive lineman Kendall Randolph was wearing a hamstring-support strip on his left leg.

— Dylan Moses and Joshua McMillon were both present during practice. McMillon was watching the inside linebackers, while Moses was seen leaving the practice field at the beginning of the period.

— Freshman Byron Young continues to work with the first unit on the defensive line. He was joined by D.J. Dale, Raekwon Davis and Phidarian Mathis. The second unit consisted of Christian Barmore, Stephon Wynn Jr., Tevita Musika and Justin Eboigbe.
