TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama worked outdoors Tuesday as it held its second practice in preparation for Saturday’s home-opener against New Mexico State. Players were dressed in full pads and worked under sunny, 93-degree weather. Here are some notes from the media viewing period.
— Freshman defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe (foot) was present during the period. He worked off to the side in a black jersey. He appeared to be doing upper-body resistance work while wearing a high-altitude mask.
— Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor Jr. (knee) was again absent from the viewing period.
— Alabama’s defense worked out to the dime package. The first-team unit was made up of Trevon Diggs and Josh Jobe at the cornerback positions, Patrick Surtain II at Star and Xavier McKinney at Money. Jordan Battle worked alongside Jared Mayden at the safety positions, while Shane Lee served as the lone linebacker.
— Battle was later replaced by Shyheim Carter at safety after a few reps. It’s still interesting to see the true freshman get some first-team action.
— The second unit was made up of Jalyn Armour-Davis and Marcus Banks at cornerback with Carter at Star and DeMarcco Hellams at Money. Battle and Daniel Wright were the two safeties. Markail Benton was shadowed by Jaylen Moody at linebacker.
— The outside linebackers worked in pairs with Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis leading the way. Next up were Christopher Allen and Kevin Harris II followed by King Mwikuta and Ben Davis. Jarez Parks and walk-on Preston Malone were in the final group.
— The offensive line worked in pairs with guards working beside tackles.
— The right side was led by Landon Dickerson and Jedrick Wills Jr. Next came Matt Womack and Tommy Brown followed by Kendall Randolph and Amari Kight.
— Evan Neal and Alex Leatherwood were the first to go on the left side followed by Pierce Quick and Scott Lashley and Deonte Brown and Tanner Bowles.
— Najee Harris led the running backs and was followed by Brian Robinson Jr., Jerome Ford, Keilan Robinson and Chadarius Townsend. Robinson (5-foot-9, 190) is on the scout team and was wearing a No. 1 jersey to represent NMSU running back Jason Huntley (5-foot-9, 193).
— Former Alabama head coach Ray Perkins was in attendance.
