TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — After a day off Monday, Alabama returned to the practice field Tuesday for its first practice in preparation of Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette. Players were dressed in full pads under partly cloudy, 87-degree weather for the workout. Here are some notes from the media viewing period.

— Matt Womack (foot) returned to practice last week and is moving well during drills with the rest of the offensive line. He was playing right tackle on the second-team offensive line Tuesday.

— Left guard Lester Cotton came up gingerly on a rep but was able to return to the unit one play later. He was replaced by Deonte Brown in the meantime.

— Linebacker Dylan Moses showed no limitations after he was involved in a scary collision with the wall in the end zone Saturday. Moses returned the game later but said Monday that he played with pain his lower back.

— After earning his first career start over the weekend, Patrick Surtain II worked with the starting secondary out of the nickel package Tuesday. Trevon Diggs played as the opposite cornerback while Shyheim Carter played at Star. Deionte Thompson and Xavier McKinney were the two safeties, while Moses and Mack Wilson were the two linebackers.

— The second-team nickel package consisted of Josh Jobe and Saivion Smith at cornerback with Nigel Knot shadowing Smith. Kyriq McDonald played at Star while Keaton Anderson played at one safety position and Daniel Wright as shadowed by Eddie Smith at the other. Markail Benton was shadowed by Ale Kaho at one linebacker position while Joshua McMillon was shadowed by Jaylen Moody at the other.

— Jared Mayden was seen drinking water to the side during the drill. I didn’t see much of the second team, so he might have just been getting a breather.

— During positional drills, the defensive backs were working on shedding blocks on running plays.

— Running back Ronnie Clark (6-2, 230 pounds) was wearing a No. 15 scout-team jersey representing Louisiana-Lafayette running back Elijah Mitchell (5-11, 221 pounds). Mitchel has 18 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown this season.
